Just seen this on the Powergen website, a handy reminder of all the different looks the ITV National Weather has had:

"We’ve been sponsoring the ITV National weather for a staggering 15 years. In that time, we’ve seen quite a few changes and some fantastic weather idents that have been recognised nationally for their creativity and humour.

Since the popular ‘WeatherGens’ in 1996, we’ve seen ‘Controlling Energy’ and the very successful ‘Monsters Inc.’ in 2002. We launched ‘Power in Good Hands’ at the end of 2002 and now it’s Bob who introduces the weather.

Our weather sponsorship can be seen 3 times a day, 365 days a year all over the UK. Bob's currently on air in our autumn themed idents so make sure you look out for him at the start and end of your ITV National weather bulletins"

As they are seemingly proud of their past idents they really should bring back the 'WeatherGens' by popular demand. I'm sure it would give them a lot of goodwill from their customers

Speaking of sponsorhip, ITV Weather was the first "programme" if it be called that to have the very first sponsorship for a programme on ITV. Nowadays its commonplace on ITV to have programmes sponsored. What became an annoyance is now part and parcel of a programme these days.

It's also fairly notable how Powergen have been the one and only sponsor of it all the time.

Ah, the Weathergens. Just think - branding, idents and the like were much better (in a way) back then, we had the above sponsorship stings, the Chevron was still flying through the Dales, the Central cake hadn't been eaten up, the BBC globe was still around etc.

Maybe we should start a petition Wink

What were the 'Weathergens'?

They were sequences using actors dressed as different weather elements with music to suit them.
They had the pom pom girl for cold weather, the rain lady made up of umbrellas, the sun god, and the snow queen, very impressive.

It is quite amazing how long Powergen have been sponsoring the weather though. I've never minded the powergen sponsorship ads.

I see they mention "Bob", but don't name-check Simon Day, who plays him, at any point.

Can I ask why ITV has put a brummy girl as a London forecaster! I can understand Robin being demoted but not her.

I don't know, I agree it's a bit of a shame that Chrissy is now only on ITV London (But Thankful for the ITV News Channel), but I can see where they're coming from as it makes more sense to have one assigned presenter to ITV London, as many ITV Regions do this and it saves the duty of the ITV Weather presenter on that day.

Plus Becky Mantin is now doing ITV National Weather full time, so I guess it makes more sense as they have one extra member of staff.

As for Powergen sponsorship, I preferred it when they had the designs of the Powergen logo on the titles, though they were always shattered by rain or moved by wind, I remember they were using them in 1993.
