She's been around the South Bank for, what, around nine months now? I've not noticed any improvement so far, so I have to seriously doubt whether any is possible, after all this time.
Anyway, I don't THINK it's just MY opinion, given all those votes for her, up above!
Nick is right. Over the last twelve months there has been a change in many of the teams delivery and presentation style.
I personally think Sonia is the weakest in the team - pleasant voice and that's it - boring, safe, plain scripting - comments on here have been raised about how dull she is particularly on the regional announcements.
Sasha last night delivered as I think announcers should, good links with personality and the view that she was watching with you.
She shines like a beacon in the new team whereas Sonia is just dull - nothing special - maybe good for radio newsreading but thats it!
From the males I really think Paul Seed is good - he has a great voice and makes each announcement smooth, informative and slick!
If this were 'Announcer Idol' Sonia would have gone now and as the Simon Cowell on this forum I would add ...... 'Bland nothing special - bingo caller at Bognor at best'!
Just an aside.... I thought Sasha was really good last night! Now she not only adds that bit of extra creativity in her scripts but also gives that all important impression that she is watching the show with you with relevant comments.
Good on ya gal - now do me a favour Sasha ..... as much as I love her voice take Sonia out for a drink and give her a few tips on creativity! Thanks!
Steve
I think she needs to change her script a bit as she seems to be on quite a few Saturdays, usually with the same "Look at that, Saturday on ITV1, Pop Idol next, don't go anywhere that's your Saturday night sorted" excited enthusiasm. I think a bit more variations are required.
Its much better than some though who are completly opposite
Please forgive me for raising such a stupid point (as you'll see it), but how does anyone know the announcers names. I haven't a clue. If I did, I might be able to add to this conversation...
So, how can I find out? Bear in mind I don't watch enough to be able to identify any voices you might try to describe to me...

Well that may be your opinion Nick, but to suggest throwing her under a bus is a bit over the top .Sonia maybe not be your favourite announcer on the team but she does have some feelings, and they all seem to have their own individual style within the team if they were all the same it would be boring,do you think that most of the viewers (apart from us ) even care?,or know that they are actually in a booth live ? i don't think so mate. In the next few years live continuity will be a thing of the past it will all be recorded .That's probably the next ITV cutback .

Nah, it'll never happen.
I can recognise three whole people on BBC Wales, and *both* of the ones on HTV. You see, if it's the one who sounds like a crying mouse -- that one's called Sue. The other one sounds like a winking crocodile -- this one is called Leighton. He pauses all the time, which is another clue.

Oh no please let's not go down that same old route of whether Joe Public cares or not - we know that the majority don't as long as their fav prog comes on! The fact is WE care hence we are on this forum and freely spout off about it.
As for Sonia's feelings - I am sure she has broad shoulders, in this industry, as in any in the public limelight, you have to get used to criticism although it's nice when people say they like what you do!
When I first started in radio I was very defensive about any negative comments around me BUT you do get used to it and I actually listen to what people have to say - the reason... I am only as good as my last show. If the figures are down I must be doing something wrong - thankfully the last RAJAR was very encouraging!
