Sasha Twining's been quite good since she came from the Beeb. She has that human quality, where it's not that easy to tell if her words are scripted. I would've have voted for Trish Bertram, but she's not full time.
It wasn't exactly the end of regional ITV1 announcers. We still (just about) get our own announcers in Wales, as do Scotland and Northern Ireland.
However, I'd give my vote to everyone except the incredibly smug-sounding Trish Bertram. The fact that she does v/o for infomercials says a lot.
Sorry maybe I should have clarified the poll to be 75% of the country
What exactly does doing infomercials say, apart from the fact that they are incredibly hard to get accepted for, and they pay quite well most of the time??

I don't care how well they pay. Infomercial announcers always sound incredibly tacky. I refer you to JML Direct and Simply Shopping.

which infomercials has aunty trish voiced then uncle glen does the fab no wet wonder foam, but i cant say i have noticed trish on any - or perhaps i am not watching enough infomercials.
i, personally, think the gruesome twosome are the only shining lights in the dull and uninspiring world of contemporary itv continuity.
i suppose if i was a fan of bland-ness i'd be in my element - but prior to last year on central we were spoilt with top notch announcers - and i'd imagine the same could be said for the northern stations and london.

That is true, though the best were at Granada with people like Colin Weston, Charles Foster, (The Late) Jim Pope, John Mackenzie and co, made Granada's continuity excellent. Though most of us hated the centralisation at Leeds for about 4 years they did put a good team together at Yorkshire Television, especially Bob and Maggie. Shame they couldn't have gone down to London, but they did say No and I can't blame them.
I never watched Carlton London, but from what I have seen I can't say that their continuity isn't too bad. LWT - Need I say more? They put enthusiasm into the announcements most of the time, considering that their last ident (Videowall) was crap.

I'm not exactly all clued up on my infomercials, but out of the few I've seen, her voice is definately there. I believe she announces for QVC as well. If there's one thing to be said about her, it's that she's got a distinctive voice.
I just think her voice makes her sound very smug, as if she's got a huge grin on her face all the time. When she's announcing on ITV1, that's not really a good thing. How can anyone introduce crap like Sweet Medicine and sound proud of it?
Seriously, it sounds naff, and I cringe everytime I hear her voice.

well they are supposed to "sell" the programmes they're introducing are they not? and i'd say trish is pretty good at that - anyone who can sound enthusiastic about "im the answer" and similar calibre shows ought to be commended.
i think there is more than enough room on itv for voices from both the maggie mash-school and the bertram-thompsett school of announcing.

Not *entirely* sure this is suitable, so I'll make it small. And don't ask me how I ended up stumbling on this, perhaps it was for this very post who knows, but Trish voiced this *product* in the summer.
I got quite an alarm I can tell you, though Trish has done ads in the past for ladies shaving what nots [I have no idea or care in this area]. Apart from my years in LWT-land I'll remember Trish for announcing at the top of GMTV as well, back in the day.
I haven't voted because I can't really decide. On the one hand I'd vote Trish, on the other the question doesn't really apply. Actually I'll vote for the way it was before.

It's not enthusiasm though. It just sounds forced. I just don't like her announcing. I've never liked her since I first heard her on GMTV

Yeah, that really reflects the way in which the channel is not sure what it is anymore.
No, Trish and Glen are the dream team for any continuity line-up as far as I'm concerned. They are both expert at adjusting their announcing style to the station/time of day/type of programming in a way that the younger annos can't. Their experience shines through.
