I’ve found out it’s called “ITVi Stream44” but I can’t see that on my Sky Q box in the list when I put the frequency details in

On my TV, I can just continue to watch CITV on satellite after it closes and everything just changes to Merit. It is manually tuned in and the TV is not a Freesat TV, just one that happens to have a satellite tuner.

I wonder if you just manually tuned in CITV would it work that way on a Sky box?

It sounds like what used to happen with CBBC/BBC Three and CBeebies/BBC Four if you tuned them in outside of the EPG. CBBC/CBeebies would end, fade to black and then BBC Three/Four would fade up and start as normal - in other words its just one stream with different output after 9pm.

7pm, not 9pm. CBBC only extended it's hours after BBC Three closed as a linear channel, and Cbeebies still finishes at 7pm now.

Sorry that was my fault, I was referring to the CITV/Merit split, not the BBC splits.

Did it say ITVi Stream 44 or was it normal CITV?

As an answer to PFMC84, probably not.

I can confirm manually tuning CITV brings up the same “No programmes are currently being broadcast on this channel” message as when you go to it on the EPG when it is off-air

Probably related to the Sky software then. On my TV with built in satellite tuner, it works perfectly fine. CITV ends and then Merit starts without having to do anything.

If the 'ITVi Stream 44' isn't coming up when you scan that transponder then Sky's software isn't allowing you to tune it in so you'l never be able to see it.

Yeah it’s probably Sky Q blocking it then, I don’t have access to an older box (such as Sky+HD) to see if it works that way.

The 'ITVi Stream 44' service reports itself as being a data service, not a TV service. As these aren't normally services that you can tune in to and watch, I expect the Sky Q firmware is filtering these out. I imagine the Sky+HD firmware will be doing the same.

FTA receivers generally don't filter anything so will display the service and try to tune in to it anyways, in this case successfully.

It will do, the CITV service is updated at 7pm to remove it's video and audio streams (as used by Merit). The ITVi service isn't changed, which is why it works. It's been this way for a long time, prior to the launch of Merit the video and audio streams were active 24/7 usually showing a black screen (sometimes with CITV's DOG) when CITV was off air, so the service was updated to trigger receivers to show their off air slide in place of whatever was coming out of Red Bee.
