Well that's the BBC knackered as well then. That Liddement is an idiot.
Yet strangely I don't remember ITV being in as much of a state when he was in charge
Oh no? Don't forget it was Mr Liddement who took the decision to move News at Ten away from 2200. I thought it was that momumental cock-up that largely sealed his demise.

Some interesting views here . I don't recall ITV being screwed up by David Liddiment?
Is this the same David Liddiment under whom Who wants to be a Millionaire, I'm a Celebrity, Bad Girls, Cold Feet, Popstars , Pop Idol, and the nurturing of Ant and Dec (to name but a few ) gave the ITV network some great hits ? Lets not forget -it may have still been a network but the Network Centre commisioned and ran the schedule under Liddiment and was in much better shape then than it is now.
As to the infamous News at 10 episode. He held his hand up and admitted he got it wrong. It hardly gave rise to his demise.
He moved on when Granada bought Carlton and started to force its dominance on the Network centre. Simple as that. Anyone recall anything his successor Nigel Pickard did for ITV? Ok...maybe X Factor - which owes everything to what came before. It's Opportunity Knocks for the new millenium - hardly new.
So - I think you 've got the wrong man - it's Granada who screwed up ITV - not Liddiment.

This is a guy who gave us primetime Ant and Dec? Why hasn't someone shot him?
David Liddiment is going to be a BBC Trustee - a role which replaces the BBC Governors. He will NOT be responsible for programme making or in managing BBC operations - he is more there to ensure that the BBC is working in the public interest.
Historically the governors didn't have a broadcast background - so it is interesting to see that Patricia Hodgson (who was the BBC's Secretary under John Birt and worked heavily on a previous charter renewal) and David Liddement (who has a significant programme making and broadcast management history behind him) on the board.
I have dim recollections of David Liddiment working briefly for the BBC in the 90s (though not for very long)...
