The government has announced the names of eight members of the BBC Trust, the body which replaces the corporation's Board of Governors on 1 January 2007.

The new trustees include former director of programmes at ITV, David Liddiment, and former BBC director of policy and planning Patricia Hodgson

The trustees will join three current governors and BBC chairman Michael Grade on the new board.

The eight new members have been appointed for a four-year term.

It is intended that the Trust be more removed from BBC management and more accountable to licence fee payers.

The trustees will earn between £35,000 and £40,000 per annum for working two days a week.

Michael Grade will receive £140,000 a year for a four-day week, compared to a £82,946 salary in 2005-6.

Hmmm he hasn't been at ITV for quite a few years now so not sure how he can be 'off' to the beeb. Unless he's been having trouble on the central line. It's a bugger that.

Well that's the BBC knackered as well then. That Liddement is an idiot.

He's certainly an "interesting" choice given some of the deeply anti-BBC views he's had in the past.

Yet strangely I don't remember ITV being in as much of a state when he was in charge Confused

It was in a lot more of a state when he finished than when he started.

Liddiments strength is in light-entertainment ONLY. He truly doesn't comprehend the nature of TV and its viewers, neither has anyone else, at ITV, since his departure!!!!

Um, the BBC Trust will have nothing to do with the day-to-day running of the BBC, so not sure how you expect Liddiment to make a significant impact.

I think light entertainment is what they're lacking at the moment!

His career hasn't just been with ITV Network Centre you know

He used to be high up at Granada Television in the 90s, didn't he executive produce Coronation Street at one time?

You can see his name at the end of many programmes on ITV3

But he made his real mark at Granada with...

Stars In Their Eyes
The Krypton Factor (he left before the new producer destroyed it with that awful new look in the last series)
Busman's Holiday
plus many other light-entertainment shows, made by Granada, that were shown across the network at the time

Oh god, However, if he manages to revive Noel's House Party - or specials - he gets a big pat on the back. What? He's a governer? Rolling Eyes
