Didn't all the ITV plc regional licences get renamed to 'ITV Broadcasting Limited' a while back? (except Channel Television)

A quick glance at this page on the Ofcom website shows that all the ITV licences (except the two STVs, UTV, Channel, and ITV Breakfast Broadcasting Limited) are all held by ITV Broadcasting Limited, registered at The London Television Centre. That's not to say that some of its predecessor companies don't still exist - according to that DueDil page, LWT Ltd wholly owns a company called ITV Sales, which is probably for some sort of exciting accounting reasons.

ISTR that one of the companies (Anglia Television, I think) was renamed 'ITV Broadcasting Ltd' and then all the other franchises (in England & Wales) were transferred to that subsidiary company.

Are LWT even assosciated with ITV anymore?

Confused Confused Confused Confused

LWT was bought by Granada, Granada merged with Carlton to create ITVplc !!!

Yes, but ITVplc are not just run and used by Granada and Carlton. There are many more companies like Carlton and Granada who are assosciated with ITVplc. From the looks of it, many, many companies own a part of, or use ITVplc.

Not sure what you are saying or thinking. ITV plc is a company that was formed out of the merger or purchases of the separate companies that used to run the English and Welsh (and Channel Islands and Breakfast) ITV franchises, via a series of previous mergers and purchases.

In ITV plc terms Granada, Carlton, LWT, Yorkshire, Anglia, Meridian, Border, HTV, Westcountry, Tyne Tees, Central, Channel and ITV Breakfast (GMTV or whatever it is called) etc. are all part of a single company - ITV plc.

UTV and Scottish are the two ITV franchise holders outside ITV plc.

So, you see, ITV plc assosciated with many TV regions(which are companies). Doesn't this make me partially correct?

STV and UTV are two different companies altogether. ITV give UTV and STV the Channel 3 licence under contract. And also they have the ability to opt out of the Network to show their own programming. STV has already done this in the past, and felt the wrath of ITV because of them doing so.

As previously stated, the regions such as Meridian, Anglia and and Border, are all part of ITVplc, which STV and UTV have no part of.

ITV is basically the ringleader.

No, it does not. Carlton and Granada bought the other English and Welsh regions. The merged. They renamed as ITV plc. The bought GMTV Ltd and renamed it ITV Breakfast. They bought Channel Television. STV bought Grampian TV and renamed Scottish Media Group, and later STV. Totally separate fro ITV plc.

No you are not correct!! ITV own them, I'm going to break this down to a level you might understand, example - Stagecoach in Oxford and Stagecoach in Newcastle may operate in different areas, but they are owned by the Stagecoach Group.

The same applies to the regions, they may broadcast in different regions and have different names, but ITVplc own them! if you still don't believe any of us, why not email the ITV Press Centre??

And that is 100% completely wrong. Not partially correct. Wrong.

You might also be best to remember that saying - when in a hole...

I'm going to ask the question I assumed was meant in the first place...

Is SE1 still the official base of the ITV London Weekend franchise?

Of course, LWT was mainly a network production outfit rather than regional broadcaster, so much of the company (staff, departments etc) still exist and have morphed into ITV Studios.

ITV Plc was formed when Granada Plc (owners of Granada Television, LWT, Anglia, Meridian, Yorkshire, Tyne Tees & Border) took over Carlton Communications (owners of Carlton Television, Central, Westcountry & HTV).

Granada Plc & Carlton Communications were not the same as Granada Television and Carlton Television, they were their parent companies, and the TV companies were bundled along as assets along with all the other franchisees when the takeover took place.
