Signage and suchlike bigger than 1ftx1ft requires planning permission I believe. Or something like that.

What about three signs each no bigger than 1ft x 1ft? One with a big "I" on it, one with a "t"...

That would still be rather small on a building of that size.

Boring update: it could well have been up for a while but I noticed today that ITV have erected a permanent sign on the Thames size of the building. It's on the top of the shorter building closest to the Thames so it's not high up like it would have been on the tower which is probably why it was given permission.

ITV have put up the podium sign before gaining permission - the application is still pending:

It's hardly controversial as it 's in a similar position and size to the previous LWT sign. What ITV wanted to do was to erect a larger sign complete with a live wrap around TV screen on the South West corner of the tower block at about 3rd floor level. The residents of the Coin Street housing association block opposite objected. It would have looked good.

Kind of off topic but they now have two large TV screens where the audience entrance is broadcasting ITV Meridian.

While I was waiting for the Cilla show on Friday and the queue moved nearer to the audience entrance, I saw the Local news titles starting expecting to see ITV London News but instead they showed ITV Meridian News at 6pm.

Didn't the LWT logo used to take up all that floor? Have they put a window in since?

Well the top window does look different to all the others so its very possible it was added in later.

Slightly off topic, but the reception at 200 Gray's Inn Road is being revamped at the moment. Traditionally it hasn't carried any significant branding for ITN or ITV so I'm just wondering if the new-look logo(s) will now be incorporated into the re-designed foyer and entrance?

That stairwell section would have been extended or changed when the London Tonight (more recently Daybreak) studio was added to the roof, that is to the left of it in that photo

Indeed the stairwell was increased by one floor when the 'LNN' studio 7 and associated offices etc were added to the back end of the building. The extension was originally finished in the same small 'quartz like' terrazzo tiles as the rest of the building. Although you could see the join, it matched very well. It looks as though the area has now been re-surfaced in some sort of white smooth render, perhaps a more appropriate background for the new itv logo.

Where studio 7 is was just a veranda area, the other side was just roofing with a narrow access path - it was where the Telethon large moving sign was temporarily installed. (The stairwell etc had to extended to take the machinery for the extended lifts).
