SCHEDULE 2
For the display of 4 x fascia signs to the upper elevations of the tower structure.
Plans
Site Plan; 1298 P002 RevB.
These advertisements are refused for the following reason
(1) The proposed signage, by reason of its size, design and position at the highest part of the tower
structure would be visually prominent given their elevated positions and w ould appear alien and incongruous in
comparison to other tall buildings within Lambeth and surrounding boroughs and would therefore be harmful to
strategic views which exist into and from this site, including the host and surrounding conserv ation areas. The
application is therefore contrary to Policies 7.11 of the London Plan (2011), Policy S9 of the Lambeth Core
Strategy (2011) and Policies 41, 45 and 47 of the London Borough of Lambeth Unitary Development Plan
(2007): Policies sav ed beyond 5 August 2010 and not superseded by the LDF Core Strategy January 2011:
Notes to Applicants:
1 You are advised that this refusal relates only to the high lev el fascia signage on the tower
elevations of the building shown in the black finished elevation detail and photo montages 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,

Sounds fair enough, logos up there would look awful. I hope the lighting up of the tower still happens, it stands out at the moment through not having any exterior lighting

I wouldn't be surprised if this was already tried by LWT in the past. And it's not the first time ITV have tried.. http://www.london-se1.co.uk/news/view/4686
Lambeth Council has vetoed the high-level logos at the top of the tower on the grounds they would be "alien and incongruous".

TV
I notice that permission was granted for a logo at the lower levels, it seems they dislike a logo, or as they put it an advert, from a high level. It also explains the This Morning logos as they too were on the studios at the lower levels. They can;t be seen from too far or conservation zones so it seems OK.

Going back to the logo at the top of the tower, I sure I remember back in the late 80's the LWT logo was at the top of the tower, with one letter on each slab (L in the middle with the W & T on the following two slabs on the right).
Unless I'm mis-remembering or it was short lived & was taken down very quickly?

This was discussed a while back and there almost certainly never was a logo at the top of the tower. Although I remember them putting a logo on the tower in some slides and promo material like 'The Entertainers'
