Who designed the current lowercase ITV logo that has been used since about 1998? Does anyone know the idea behind the blue and yellow colour choice? I guess the break in the letters and the squares suggest different parts ie regions which make up ITV. Confused:

I don't know much about it but I know it was designed by English + Pockett.

As said, the original logo was designed by English & Pockett, but remember that the logo was designed as a rectangle, not as squares, but as for the colour choices, surely it will mean something, else they could have just gone for the plain white/black logo.

The font is Ariel Alternative, which is a standard font on Windows

Sounds dead on to me, Richard.

Four squares, one for each of the four regions.

ITV, SMG, UTV, CTV.

Go with that one. Keep it simple as it had to be pitched to the bosses of ITV!

I don't think it's quite Arial Alternative. I'd say the font is slightly thinner, flatter, and some of the letters are different, for example the t. I'd say its certainly based on that font though.

Yes, it is a bit of a 'squashed' version on the official logo. However, I have seen totally bog-standard Arial Alternative used on some occasions, making for a slightly 'taller' logo.

Is the ITV logo font not an amended version of the OCR 2/OCR B font?
