Britain copies too much from America. Can't we just have a new ORIGINAL idea from ITV? I mean I don't mind them being inspired by imports, but this? This is too much.

How do you differentiate between copying from a foreign programme and being inspired by a foreign programme (which this is)?

How much is 'too much'?

Original ideas are hard to come by these days, that's just the way it is. Putting a chat show in that slot 5 days a week is certainly something that's not been done here

I mean we have a lot of imported ideas. Original Ideas are hard to come by that is true. But original ideas are needed more. That's what I meant by 'too much'.

The best way for ITV to get more views on GMB is alter entire schedule, bring GMB earlier to about start 5.30 and end at 8.15, retitle it GMB with Piers Morgan.

Yes, because you'd make Syphilis more popular if only it was retitled: "Syphilis with Piers Morgan". Rolling Eyes

I think the schedule should look like this on ITV during the day (s):

6am GMB
9.00 Lorraine
10.00 This Morning
12pm Loose Women
1.00 ITV Lunchtime News
1.25 Local news
1.30 Judge Rinder
2.30 Technology show??
3.00 Dickinson's Real Deal
4.00 Cooking show??
5.00 The Chase

6.00 ITV Evening News
6.30 Local news
7.00 Soaps
8.00 Documentary
9.00 Nightly chat show
10.00 ITV Nightly News/ News at Ten
10.30 Local news
10.45-6am Night programming

NO! NO! NO! The schedule should remain the same (obviously except for Jeremy Kyle, Yeah he should be scrapped). Apart from that, the current schedule is just fine. Leave it as it is. (Sorry about the capital letters in the first part of the sentence). I just wanted to get this off my chest!

As much as Jeremy Kyle is downmarket tabloid nonsense, he's maintained a steady share for ITV in that slot.

To be fair, with the BBC offering nothing but monotonous property shows and Channel 4 showing Frasier for the 92,582nd time, they don't have much to compete against.

They should keep the evening news hour like it is so when it's ITV region news it BBC national then other way round, the 7pm slot should have 1hr soaps / programmes
Monday : Coronation Street
Tuesday : Emmerdale
Wednesday : New Drama
Thursday : Emmerdale
Friday : Coronation Street
Saturday : New Comedy Show / Game Show
Sunday : Coronation Street

Emmerdale would air at 6pm on weekends, with news hour at 5pm.

They should have GMB air 7 days a week, same with news at ten

Fantasy schedules are laughable - especially when you work with people who have to do the schedules. It's really not that simple.

I feel for the people who have to produce the schedules, especially if the Content is not there...

* Please note my original point was how I can't see ITV separating the National/Regional News format, it would be poor PRESENTATION. Shocked

A technology show daily on ITV daytime? ?????

Fits about as well as a Saturday night primetime game show hosted by Michael Gove.

Hang on a minute!... *writes that down*

Everyone? The whole country? No point in ITV doing news at all then?

Surely if ITV is 2nd place in news, moving a main news programme to a slot that doesn't compete with the other side is the best chance you can give yourself to make an in-road.

Eventually, one of the main ITV news programmes will fade away - I say it's best for the remaining programme to be in a prime slot that assists the remaining schedule and doesn't clash with the Beeb.

That leaves 8PM. Would that be viable? I mean would viewers actually settle down at primetime to watch news on ITV? Mind you having said that it would help with the drama quota and films not being cut in half:

A possible schedule could be:

6.00 Local Programmes
7.00 Soaps
8.00 ITV Network News
8.30 Documentary?
9.00 Movie or 2 hour drama
11.00 ITN Late News

Surely it's best to have Regional News programming coupled with the National News? This could be a real problem if ITV reduce their two National News programmes to one as they won't want to place the News too far in the schedule as otherwise what is the point? Would the Regional News become just one bulletin too (though that could be a positive thing if carried out correctly by Ofcom)?

This Chatshow format could work (remember News At Ten itself was an Six Weeks experiment...) but where would that leave the News? A short bulletin after the Chatshow?

Whatever happens, there probably still will be a full-length late bulletin. Perhaps it will go back to the 2004-2008 format.

That fantasy schedule a few posts above is probably the worst I've ever seen. An hour long technology show every day in daytime and scrapping the entire 9pm drama portfolio. Not to mention the daily 8pm 'documentary'. Laughable stuff.

I mean we have a lot of imported ideas. Original Ideas are hard to come by that is true. But original ideas are needed more.

There's not really any such thing as a truly original idea, everything is derivative of something, and TV companies around the world import ideas from everywhere else. The UK certainly exports much more than it's fair share of creativity.

US TV is full of British ideas, talent and formats. Just look at James Cordon's show, heavily influenced by programmes like TFI Friday and Graham Norton

We've had television for 80 years. There comes a point where pure originality becomes thin on the ground.

I have actually watched many US TV shows and have actually seen the similarity between US and UK TV shows. Personally I feel that there are way too many US TV shows on UK TV.
