I thought tonight was better than yesterday, Kim was a better guest than Martin Clunes was.

I would like to know what kind of drugs those hyper contestants were given playing the pointless game where they were electric shocking them for no reason.

It's apparant they ITV think they can do this type of show on the cheap with very little quality content if they shove it in a prime timeslot. I'd like them to realise they're sadly mistaken.

Walliams' stiff joke delivery reminds me more of Up Late With McBain...

I've said it before and I'll say it again: we've already had our equivalent of the Late Night shows with the 5pm chat shows.

I'm not saying this to antagonise people or anything but what's with the bitterness about News at Ten being pushed back half an hour? Is it because of the potential dip in figures, or because it's not called News at Ten anymore, or... what?

By the same token, why does a daily chat show have to be late night as it is in the US?

I think the 5pm show especial with Paul is far better than this nightly show. ITV can do this on the cheap Look at CBS but it needs to move time and allow the host to have more control.

We'll all just repeating our self with the main facts that keep on being raised on here. My parents watch it and thought it was crap, and never realised David only on for one week. Maybe a different host next week might change that.

I tweeted about it (jokingly) not going well with the HSE. Very Happy

I'm willing to give this room to develop. I'm now watching an episode of James Corden's Late Late Show and the biggest difference to me is the enthusiasm of James as a host in comparison to David, James makes it out like the show is the best thing that has ever happened to him and that he believes that it's the best programme which helps to translate to the audience. Obviously a different host could change the viewers and weeks could be higher due to the host announced.

I thought it was alright tonight after missing last night's show. Certainly feels like people are willing it to do badly and aren't enjoying it for what it is - half an hour of unpretentious entertainment.

Suspect we'll see a lot of the features chopping and changing until something "goes viral". That feels like the goal.

On the other side of the argument to the one I was making earlier...

Total US population: 318.9m (2014)
Total UK population: 64.1m (2013)

Total US late night viewing (Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, Seth Myers, James Corden, Carson Daly, taken from Jan 9-13 figures): 12.44m
Reported Nightly Show figure (low): 2.16m

US percentage of population watching all of US late night (presuming absolutely no overlap): ~4%
UK percentage of population watching Nightly Show (low figure): ~3.4%

The viewing figures don't look terrible framed like that.

With the big drama being on BBC1 tonight and Play To The Whistle being on ITV, I fear ITV have set The Nightly Show up for the inevitable "figures crash on day 2" story the journos are waiting to write.

It feels like a show trying to find its feet under the glare of a mega spotlight, in circumstances where people want it to fail. It relegated the news, it's hard to think of a better way to wind up the journalists who'll be covering it. It also feels like several week-long pilots where if they strike gold with one presenter they'll try to run with that in a future series, and if not we may never see it again.

Problem is, this chat show lark is not easy to do and it has proved a huge trap for some of the best presenters - Davina McCall being a perfect example. And inevitably compared to the viral clips that come from the US, it's going to look relatively low-budget. (the fact that a UK audience would hate 90% of what's on those shows isn't spotted by the general audience, as they don't watch them)

It's started now. I'm prepared to give it the run and see how it ends up.

If the figures remain as they are it's been a big success - a boost to the 10pm hour slot without damaging the news that's now at 10:30.

Come back in four weeks and then we'll know if it's looking like a success or not.

I'd argue that for most of the week, telly sort of gives up after 10pm, especially on ITV. And there's more freedom to play with being unshackled from the watershed.
