Kevin Lygo makes a good point about the news, for the biggest commercial channel in the UK to go from a high rating drama/entertainment programme down to 1.7m for the News at Ten because the news airing on the other channel satisfies the appetite at that time and takes away the audience would lead to interesting business questions. I think it's a good idea for them to be more flexible and with a bit of work could work well having the programme before the news.

When it was first announced I would have chosen a programme to air after the news, though it would be a big ask to bring the audience back up from the news, plus in a nation with a much smaller population than the US, what level of audience is available at 11pm or for a nightly show to launch into a late night zone with good figures?

A bit like Paul O'Grady does late.

Exactly. Wasn't horrific but certainly wasn't great and I think some goodwill from casuals tuning in on opening night will have been lost. That needed to be far grander - better guests for starters (the ventriloquist pretty much just got into a bag). If they've supposedly done that many pilots, it should have hit the ground running.

And what was with the bit at the end where they started to just walk off the stage? Weird.

Have no advertising and you're less likely to lose your audience, and you can use those figures to help sell the slots later in the week, simples.

No adverts with STV still going straight into Scotland Tonight. Its clear this isnt about money.

The ad minutes will have been used up in Broadchurch and 2 Corries. Not all nights are as strong as that, so they may have some minutes left over.

The best bit, which was spontaneous was when that strange bloke won the holiday (courtesy of icelolly.co.uk of course) and started walking onto the stage, with David having to turn him away.

I'm liking the branding of the programme but didn't understand why the titles didn't play out until after the monologue.

Probably just ripping off the Americans where the titles almost always follow the opening monologue.

There not even adverts going into the news. Lets get something striaght here? If there is NO adverts ITV isnt making money so why has it moved the news? to get more viewers to prove what?

Exactly. Had they aired it in a 10.40-11.15pm slot they could at least get a break in at 11pm using the overnight quota, even squeeze two in if they expanded it to 45 minutes.

Not my cup of tea, but not all ITV's fault. I came to this still remembering Walliams and Friend on the BBC - which already put me off David's humour quite a bit. I appreciate some others will like having the choice.

It's a bit like a Tesco Value US chat show. I know it's early days, but I think it needs a permanent host for it to grow, and probably a 40-45 minute slot.

I think you're right. Two things I noticed were:
- the rather 'cold' cold open, the US versions of late night shows usually have audience really whipped up cheering and clapping. This crowd were somewhat less enthusiastic.
- the lack of a house band. Probably not worth it for such a short show, and it would take up the performance space, but it would add a bit of atmosphere, laugher from the stage etc during the monologue and into/out of the break.

Also, I felt the set looked a little lost in the middle of the stage:

Someone above said will the show has a sponsor but will ITV get more money overall during those 8 weeks?

Craig Fregension point this out once, I think doing his show for the Scottish specials the people were a bit more " were wait a see" Maybe there need to get William G stweart back to wipe the crowed up.

There is no room for a House band, let be fair that place is even smaller then what Craig got back in 2005.

I really enjoyed it. It was short, snappy and a show which they could of quite easily have dragged out across an hour but there was simply no need to. It was good the way it was.

What happened to The Chuckle Brothers though?

Have to say, regardless of the content, the look of the show doesn't do much for me. Really does just look like a budget version of a US talk show. Set looks tiny when you compare it to something like even the Jonathan Ross Show.

Poor Man's Last Leg, with a Godsent start item. Even got the toys on desk too.

I think your only point of reference for this type of show is The Last Leg. The props on the desk isn't a totally unique idea to The Last Leg either.
