ITV News promo during break (which was made up entirely of promos) shows News at Ten style set and graphics with the 'at Ten' removed.

The news plug during the ad break ... "A busy night here in the newsroom". Erk.

The problem is our expectations of chat shows have become much higher given what we see of US chat shows. A bit like Channel 5 trying to do a version of Lip Sync Battle. In comparison to what they're doing, you can't compete. A bit like Taggart ending as the likes of NCIS took over as well.

It's interesting - I saw an early pilot of this (they had an absolute ton of them) and assumed that it was in the very early stages of working out what worked and what didn't. It doesn't seem to have moved as much as it needed to.

But having said all that - it's night one.

The sketches, particularly the nominee sketch was very well produced and well acted. I like the versatility of the set with bespoke backgrounds, better than a city backdrop.

I'm liking the programme so far and think that David is a good fit in the role, a shame that it is just for one week, by the time we become used to a host it'll be time to move on to another.

The accelerated flow into the programme is the best way to go imo to retain the audience from 9pm. I quite liked the crash in to the ad break *or trailer break).

I'm liking the branding of the programme but didn't understand why the titles didn't play out until after the monologue.

It's a bit like a Tesco Value US chat show. I know it's early days, but I think it needs a permanent host for it to grow, and probably a 40-45 minute slot.

My alarm bell is in the interview with Kevin Lygo where he says "critically acclaimed is a meaningless term". https://www.theguardian.com/media/2017/feb/26/itv-kevin-lygo-loud-entertainment-quality-drama-and-fun

I fully get the fact that ITV is a commercial broadcaster and is there to get tons of viewers, but there needs to be a solid base of programmes to make it feel like a quality channel to watch. I'd be very wary of ITV veering back into its post-merger territory when it really didn't seem to know what it was doing.

Let see first guest, oh its to promote a NEW ITV show..

Have you seen any chat show ever?

There difference, I can let ITV slip that in every so often, every week BUT as the first guest to get this off the ground.

Nothing against Martin Clunes but as very first guest? If they're going for synergy wouldn't a Broadchurch actor have been more...erm... "current".

Well I for one liked it, and was genuinely surprised at the quality of the sketches. David is a bit wooden reading an autocue but it's live and it's night one. It has great potential.
