I'm looking forward to seeing it, I'm glad ITV are trying something new for a change. I don't really understand anyone thinking negatively about it until they've actually seen it for themselves.

Probably because ITV haven't got the best track record when it comes to light entertainment, especially perseverance with new shows/formats that don't deliver instant results.

Compared to who? They probably do more light entertainment than anyone else, and pretty much never pull shows that don't perform. Channel 5 and BBC One are worse in that regard.

I still think it would be better off at 10.40( ITV) 11.10( Stv)

ITV don't seem to understand how and why those talk show work in the USA. Also there is no room for it to expand the content, maybe to 45mins? Strange thing is UK seem to better at doing talk show at 5pm time slot.

What will happen after 8 weeks is that it finished and then ITV will look at the overall look of the series?

Why would it be better off in those time slots and what is it that ITV don't understand about talk shows in America?

I think it's in a perfect time slot. 10pm is easily remembered, 10.40pm is not.

I think the fundamental point that people aren't getting is that ITV don't see any value in having the news at 10 o'clock, every single night of every single week. It just isn't a huge priority for them.

I agree. If the show works and becomes a success and returns for a more permanent run i wonder if they'd consider moving the news back even more; 10:45, or even a return of the nightly news at 11.

If the news did move to 11, would ITV Nightly News be considered too close a name to The Nightly Show, or would it be the perfect tie-in?

This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion but how many times are ITV going to "axe" News At Ten. This is the 3rd time. I wish they would just leave it alone one way or another.

That's why I'm against the show especially as regardless of opinions on Tom Bradby editorially News at Ten is the strongest it's been since the 1990s now, and I highly doubt The Nightly Show is going to rate any better.

I'm not against a Nightly Chat show at all - indeed I've been saying here for years that post-News at Ten on ITV is the obvious slot for one and I stand by that. All moving News at Ten does is send viewers to the BBC, making an already competitive slot even more competitive to launch The Nightly Show in. Airing it after News at Ten, whether at 10.30pm or 10.40/45pm IMO opens it up to a bigger potential audience now the BBC put less effort into the post news slots, and ultimately most there (other than Fridays) tends to be factual rather than entertainment.

With a little 30-second trail where David Walliams has a chat with Tom Bradby. It'll be just like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

There will be some sort of trail for the news. Not sure if it's at 10 or during the break for The Nightly Show.
