Exactly.

What would you rather do - watch a light hearted half hour then follow that up with the reality of who America have put in charge and news of the policies he's implementing, or watch the news and then have something light hearted to follow it before switching off for the night.

You could say that about anything

Would you prefer to watch a fictional drama or real life first, so show the news at 9?

Would you prefer to watch entertainment or real life news first, so show the news at 8:30?

By April this show will be swept under the carpet and ITV will be back to square one because its over thinking this.

Probably.

If the show was that good then it wouldn't need a 10pm slot and would be able to stand on its own two feet at 10.45pm.
If the American late night shows can prove popular past midnight then a 10.45 slot would be nothing really.

10.45 on ITV with a lead in of 1.5m viewers?

Plus this isn't America, after watching the news, most viewers either drift into whatever happens to follow the news (on BBC1) without much thought, or turn off and go to bed.

I'm not saying it will be a success but it'd be even less of a success at 10:45

To be fair after most ITV dramas News at Ten probably does count as light relief.

Ha. Here's thought. Leave the News at 10 at 10pm and follow up with this talk show (which sounds like a disaster by the way). Trying to do Saturday Night Take Away every night...I dont know about all of that.....

One of the biggest problems this show is going to have is that journalists who have an issue with News At Ten moving are going to have an axe to grind with it before it even starts. This isn't fair, but it is an issue.

Journalists will have an axe to grind anyway, and having a line up of failed chat show hosts doesn't help.

Also not great for their football coverage that it's been held back a few weeks into the New Year as it means now that Champions League and Europa League highlights will be pushed back to around 11.15pm.

What I suspect ITV would consider a success is not getting the Nightly Show into the schedules regularly, whether at 10pm or later, but having one host resonate with the audience enough to give them their own weekly chat show, especially with Jonathan Ross going on hiatus.

Is it certain that the football highlights won't be shown at 1030 and the news bumped to 1130? Unlikely but possible I suppose.

Have they got the rights to show hightlights early on ITV4 before being shown later in the night on the main channel?

I agree with Jack Hendo, possibly put the footie highlights on at 22:30, move the news to 23:20. Thing is, this then has implications for STV and Scotland Tonight.

They'll stick the football highlights at 11:10.

It quickly became apparent that there was very little interest in the highlights, viewers either have BT Sport or are no longer that interested, or can presumably see the goals somewhere else on demand. Hence why they moved the highlights from 10pm back to the usual 10:40pm slot after not very long.

Yes, and they coped perfectly well with showing highlights at eleven when the news was at 10.30 permanently for four years, or indeed at 11.30 when it was at eleven o'clock.

Actually this reminds me of when Chris Evans was on Virgin and exclusively revealed (cos someone told him in the pub) that ITV would be showing the Premier League highlights in primetime and said "the BBC will regret having the story of the day and leaving it until half past ten". On the same day ITV showed the Champions League highlights at half past eleven.
