I guess if you're going to make a show with guest hosts, you can't judge its performance based on only one host. You might have a crap format being carried by the one capable presenter who'll never host it again.
Don't be. Standard broadcasting way of doing things. Non-broadcast pilots allow the production team/presenters to produce 10 shows away from the glare of the viewers/social media (although I guess the audiences will be asked to tweet/like @itvnightlyshow (or whatever they have used) just to see the reaction.
So, when the show finally goes to air - and with 10 non-broadcast pilots, a short first run will be a dead cert - the team and crew have had 10 shows to practice, know which features fly, which have bombed, so on show 1 - in theory - there should be less jitters, as they've already done the show 10 times already.
Of course, the danger is some ideas/set-pieces dropped in around the chat show part, work very well in the test run, but fall quickly apart or the viewers hate them once on air.
THE NIGHTLY SHOW
We're filming an exciting new show in central London. Expect comedians, celebrity guests and studio games.
The show will record at The Cochrane Theatre near Holborn tube, London on weeknights. Although the show will transmit later at night, we shall be recording at 5.00pm.
The shows records on weekedays over the two weeks beginning Monday 28th November and Monday 5th December and are now open for booking. If you'd like to join us for this exciting and fun new show, then apply now!
It will probably end with Stephen Mulhern and Keith Lemon by week 7 and 8;
I think this format could work in the right slot possibly but 10pm isn't the right slot and 30 minutes seems too short.
Agree - they're just damaging both and setting it up for a fail IMO. Hope it flops out the gate and they're switched around within weeks.
Also so disrespecful to News at Ten - yes, the ratings haven't moved but the product they're delivering is far better than what had become essentially an Evening News repeat, and even though people may not be watching in the numbers ITV would perhaps like I really do think the new News at Ten has helped lift the impression of ITV News as a whole over the last year. Now we'll just be back to the old "News at When" scenario, at a time when ITV News is already taking a blow by losing Mark Austin.
Incredibly short sighted and just plainly stupid move IMO. You can quote that when The Nightly Show is getting 5m viewers a night.
Just when ITV News has re-established itself as a credible news outlet after the period of dumbing down and News at When in the noughties, Lygo decides to screw things up.
Oh well, that's another 2m moving across to the BBC bulletin.

I have to agree very very stupid to move news at ten, It would work better as a 40mins show at 10.40 Mon- Thurs, There need to have actually host.
