ITV is being rebranded in the next few weeks as ITV 1. Do you think it will confuse the majority of the population without any digital service - Sky/ITV Digital.

Suppose it might get people asking: 'So, where's ITV 2' & people perhaps wanting to buy a platform with it on.

Just thought, you'll be looking out for idents!

If they keep showing those ads with the new TV sets with the DVB logo thing and saying you get more free channels, people should be aware of it.

It's the people in the shops that don't know enough about FTA digital television, and all they want to do is sell you a subscription, which puts people off.

Can someone clear this up for me please, there's only five channels on terrestrial analogue, because the ITC regulate this and only certain effectivly franchises can operate on free to air, but with digital free to air it seams as if anyone can set up a station and give it to people for free, how come? (Excuse, s*** e terminology and newbie type styling, but i'm tired and fancy sleep, and can't be arsed to make it sound interllectual!)

Mich -- I'm not sure how they can go about it (probably enough money etc etc!), but they still have to follow the broadcasting regulations as laid down by and are accountable to the ITC (if the programming is uplinked from / broadcast terrestrially in the UK).

For terrestrial, it's mainly down to space on the spectrum. Therefore, not much more can be added to it without a gradual reduction in quality. Obviously there is stat-muxing which is enabling a few changes lately.

On satellite, there is more space, and if a channel has enough money to set-up, pay Sky for EPG slot and other stuff, they can I suppose. It's easy enough to get a broadcasting license from the ITC I think.

Yeah, I know it was only technically possible to have a small number of stations at good quality but if anyone could start a channel up then couldn't the bidders who lost out for C5 have just started up their own channels?

Like Boots The Chemist, who with Granada launched Wellbeing! BTW, is Granada + changing its name? (To ITV+ or ITV3, perhaps?) I ask because Men & Motors has already dumped the Granada name and ident!

I heard a rumour that Granada+ is going to be rebranded as the new ITV Gold.
