People, stop chatting about ITV controllers, like Carlton*, GR/N/D/, Channel, SMG or UTV. We're talking about the idents and programme promotions, everythink related to the LOOK of ITV. But... GR/N/D/ stations, Channel and HTV (Carlton*) have a look, SMG has another and UTV another and Carlton* another.

I wonder how long, before they ditch this look altogether, personally I would let the ITV companies do what they like, as long as they put the ITV logo(or say 'part of the ITV network') at the bottom, or they could provide their own version of the hearts theme.

When will people get it! Granada Media (the one like GR/N/D/) is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT THING to Granada TELEVISION, which uses the funny G and arrow.
Granada Media and Granada Television are not the same.
GMG is in charge of Television, Television just happens to share the same name, as GMG was spawned off from it.

Digiguide have recently changed the Granada arrow logo to the GR/N/D/.

The Granada website now takes you to a site with the GR/N/D/ logo. Indication, surely, that the bit with that logo have something to do with the channel.

The various bits of Granada now use the GR/N/D/ logo, for example GR/N/D/ SPORT.

Why shouldn't they have the same logo as Granada Media, anyway? It is the same company.

I don't agree I think that ITV should be portraying a corporate identity, whilst incorporating it's regional status.  They needed an identity to which viewers could identify (much like the BBC Globe, now balloon) and I guess the Hearts is it.  What hasn't worked for ITV is that the Carlton stations were allowed to opt out of this identity with their own version of the hearts theme, UTV opted out, the Scottish channels and several months after launch, LWT.  Where did this leave the ITV Hearts ?
The ITV logo, and hearts theme should be central to it's identity, with a small mention of the regional station.  ITV really need to get this identity crisis sorted out.

Oh and err.. I agree with you Phil about the GR/N/D/ logo, seems plausible to me.

That is exactly the point!!
It is not the same company, it is a totally different company!
And don't trust DigiGuide, they had the Channel logo for over a year even though it had changed.

Granada TELEVISION and Granada MEDIA are not the same thing FULL STOP!
and Granada Sport is also not the same as Granada Television in the NW! It too is a different company, managed from London.
And the only reason it takes you direct to the Granada website is simply because it has got rid of Gwizz sites, and hence cannot provide a blank page.
If you go to the GMG website, you will see it is split into different groups, if you go into broadcasting, you will see Granada Television, it is not the same thing!
It would be like saying the soon to launch BBC4 is the same as BBC Radio4, it isnt! It just shares a similar name!
Much as the 'Marks and Spencer Outlet Store' at Cheshire Oaks outlet village, is not the same at all (And my mother works in recruitment at M&S so I know Smile as Marks and Spencer.
It shares a similar name, but is totally different!

The itv hearts dont need replacing, just jazzing up. i like the carlton logo which is stars and they have plenty of variations of them so it takes a while for the same ident to appear.

Except they always use the eye ident (both short and long) on Carlton Central on about all programmes from 19:00 to 22:00. They are lots of good variations, I'm getting sick of that ident now!

About ITN: the ITV News really need a change, cuz they need to be more connected to the newsroom, they, if possible, could put their studio in the ITN Newsroom. It should have two flat-screens, a glass showing the newsroom and the table should be more rounded in the left for the sports presenter. The colors... you choose 'em.

I personally liked the old look - yeah, it was a bit boring but it did the job and you could still see it overnight on the ITV bulletins for a few months after the new look was brought in.

I think that one of ITN's best looks IMHO.
It was uncluttered and the themes were good, it didn't look to false or cheap.
The News Channel seems to have take on that look, with the newsroom in the background and the blue neon round the desk.
I preferred it much more to the current look of ITN.
