I agree why cant they do something like BBC One where the same idents are used but they include the regions logo
Granada's G and arrow, YTV's chevron, and LWT's ribbon are too well known.

And... only some stations wanted to use the corporate theme... in 1989 and 1999!

Wadda ya think about stations that doesn't use the ITV hearts, like Scottish TV and UTV?

Not forgetting Grampian, of course, who decided to use the 1989 generic right up until 1999.
According to someone in another forum, GMG stations said that they wanted to aim to change their idents every 3 years, so expect something pretty soon.
and FYI, as I am aware, EMP was not behind Carlton's star, it was an artist somewhere in london.
EMP only created the hearts idents.
And the idea of getting rid of the regional strands and just calling it ITV North West, like the BBC is not a good idea at all.
The idea about ITV is that it is just that, independent, not controlled from london by one big company!
With the advent of the regional idents It is obvious that GMG northern stations are getting bored of the idents already, so IMO they will ditch the hearts and just retain the regional idents they currently use.
Whether or not Granada elects to use a new regional ident before the new look Granada Tonight remains to be seen.

The artist who designed the Carlton* star was Martin Lambie-Nairn, tha same who designed the BBC Balloon, 2s and the corporate logo. And... if GMG owns all the Northern England Franchises, such as Granada, Yorkshire, Tyne Tees and Border England (and Anglia and Meridian) this region should be just 'ITV North'.

I wonder if Granada are changing their logo to that of Granada Media? You know, the GRANADA in purple letters with funny A's. I think that Granada Sport have started using this as well.

Why haven't Granada done a Carlton and called all of their regions Granada? They could have Granada NorthWest, Granada Yorkshire, Granada Tyne Tees, and those others that they have, whichever they are.

That would be awful, what Carlton have done is appauling and they now regret it. Granada will keep regional identities.
Also Viakenny - I'm sure they wouldn't rename it ITV North, becuase the lession has been well and truly with C3NE.

Do any of the regions still bother with the full hearts idents. I mean the short films before the regional ident, the washing line, the guy painting the floor, moving house, raining on the station platform etc. Yorkshire seem to have dumped them and just use the spinning hearts with the Yorkshire logo and the lines version. That does annoy me about ITV how they dump there idents so quickly, doesn't happen with the BBC balloon. Maybe they should have introduced the idents more gradually and they wouldn't have got bored with them so quickly.

Yep - Granada have also well and truely dumped the 'live-action' clips at the start of their idents (so assume that means the same for YTV and TTTV) Border continue to show them AFAIK and Meridian are quite happy to show them all the time! Quite a few times they don't have an announcer, allowing for the full live-action clip to be shown.

Cheers,

With reagrds to the person who posted talking about Granada's new logo.
I feel like pulling out my hair when someone says 'Are Granada going to change the logo of Granada TV to the one with the funny A's that look like arrows' ARRRRRRG!
When will people get it! Granada Media (the one like GR/N/D/) is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT THING to Granada TELEVISION, which uses the funny G and arrow.
Granada Media and Granada Television are not the same.
GMG is in charge of Television, Television just happens to share the same name, as GMG was spawned off from it.
and no, ITV North should not exist, as I have said in another thread, I think. That would defeat the idea of having franchise bids for ITV.
What you must remember is ITV is not a wholly owned company, it cannot have things like 'BBC One North West' because it is not owned by one big thing.
So ITV north could never exist, because then they would not be able to have a franchise battle.

Yes, but what you also have to remember is that the government has relaxed the rules on the ownership of ITV franchises, and it is now dominated by Carlton & Granada, who are gradually swallowing the franchises up between them.  It has been muted by many media experts that the day of a single ITV company is not too far away.

Yes, you are right, but this would still not mean that franchises were abolished!
Just because on ITV company owns all of the franchises, does not mean that no-one else could bid for the regional franchises.
IMO ITV is better staying as a regional service, rather than yet another service just run from London.
This is regardless of the fact that all announcements for GMG Northern Stations would still be done from Leeds.
