Plus of course its probably better from ITV's point of view that a viewer on HD gets the "wrong" region than no region at all, which is effectively what the red slide gives you on BBC One HD.

In the early days of ITV HD, it was nationally the London version. There was a caption throughout that said words to the effect, 'This is London News, if this is not your expected programme, retune to Ch 3/103

Did that caption clash with namestraps?

Yes it did. When ITV1 HD became more regionalised but not completely regionalised, there was still a massive caption throughout the whole show to tell viewers to retune.

I was in the West Country East region at the time and got Central W. Of course, those that were legitimately in the right region still had to retune as they had a massive caption blocking most of the screen.

They should have used a viewer quenchable MHEG caption Smile

The Digitalbitrate website shows what's happened to the transponder that did carry Central W, Meridian SE and London HD - three HD channels removed yesterday, two new ITV HD variants now testing.

3 regions testing are:

21010 - Meridian Thames HD
21015 - Meridian South HD
21070 - Anglia West HD

21080 on 11097 would appear to be Central East HD judging by the weather opt.

These new Meridian, Central, Anglia and Yorkshire sub-regions are still 'testing' under these SIDs. How long before they are added to 103 on the EPG?

Since starting on satellite, they've had EPG data, subtitles (DVB and teletext) as well as an Audio Description option added to them. Sky requires that new services have all these extras set up and running for a period of time before they are allowed on to the EPG. The services could therefore be added any day now. Given neither ITV nor Sky communicated the changes to other ITV HD regions, which caused some viewers to lose the channel, I wouldn't hold my breath for any advance notification.

In a few weeks time the South will see the changes

Sky usually require 2 weeks of testing for new HD services before they're added to the EPG, so I would expect them to be added in the next week or so.

This is bringing back memories of watching the original ITV regional streams testing on Sky for the first time in 2001, and the thrill of seeing the Carlton heart idents on my TV in Yorkshire. I'm guessing these tests don't have a grid of black squares in the top-left hand corner though.

No. They are broadcasting normally like any other HD channel. Just not yet on Sky because of the unique hoops Sky makes UK broadcasters jump through (elsewhere in the world, channels just pop-up and go live without all this).

Next Tuesday.

Reasonable to assume ITV HD Central East, Yorkshire East and Anglia West will also go live at the same time, as they all came on together.

ITV Central announcing the same. Though haven’t really made any recognition that it’s just East viewers that will benefit from this as West viewers already see the correct region on ITV HD.

Also... it’s not just the BBC that uses out of date logos. Maybe not one that’s 22 years old though...

Judging by how faded the ITV logo is, maybe it's just a modern picture of a dish that's been there for a long time.
