How long is the expected life cycle for Freesat or Freeview box?

The Consumer Rights Act states a minimum of 6 years (5 in Scotland 🤷‍♂️) for domestic electrical appliances it seems?

This doesn't mean that a product has to last six years - just that you have this length of time in which to make a claim if a retailer refuses to repair or replace a faulty product.

If a defect develops after the first six months, the burden is on you to prove that the product was faulty at the time the goods were delivered to you. In practice, this may require some form of expert report, opinion or evidence of similar problems or defects across the product range.

Yes, I worked for years for a great big electronics company, One of the perks was being able to buy their products at a greatly reduced price. I bought a 40 inch flat screen TV in 2009. A large patch of pixels on the screen failed after 18 months. I ended up in quite a battle to get it repaired free of charge under the then 'Sale of Goods Act'. My boss said my initial letter was one of the most original resignation notices he'd ever seen Laughing Anyway, I won the case eventually !
