When Sidney Bernstein set up the group to apply for the ITA North West franchise, he chose the name of 'Granada' because it was an area in Spain that he liked to go to when he took a walking holiday.

Westward TV got its name from Westward Ho! in North Devon, where Peter Cadbury was a golf course regular. Unfortunately, the local tourist board either doesn't know or think it's not worth mentioning.

I'm often in Westward Ho!, being just a mile from it, so the place has extra appeal.

so at one point it was as simple as 'HTV News is a Carlton Production for ITV1 Wales'

I do find it somewhat ironic though when ITV plc seek to change things to 'avoid confusion' when it was they who introduced the confusion in the first place.

I grant you that having HTV News made by Carlton Television and airing ITV1 Wales was a bit silly, but until 2002 HTV News was made by HTV and aired on HTV. What was so confusing about that?

Probably the former, although I'd expect that the latter would be true if they did know.

Well for those of you non-Northwesterners that are jealous that our local news is still so-called after our old region name, I'm sure it'll only be a matter of time before the ITV corporation machine renames it "ITV North West"! Then all ties between Granada and the North West will be gone.
