The title of this thread is like something you would find in a tabloid. Salford IS Manchester for most people!

And is Bradford part of Leeds? Glasgow part of Edinburgh?

Manchester and Salford are very distinct. There's rivalary too. Salford is part of Greater Manchester, as is the town of Trafford the location of the new Corrie set.

I don't believe for one second you were unaware of the lettering having been removed.

Thanks for the articles about the Granada TV lettering being removed, come to think of it I saw that some time ago, but thought the lettering was listed so it had to be put back with new fixings.

Reading the title of this thread I was concerned that Corrie filming was moving out of Greater Manchester altogether, and had visions of many old faces departing (actors not prepared to commute to the new base) to be replaced by new characters with southern accents! I'm not playing down the sadness of Quay Street closing for good, but at least Corrie's still going to be produced in the area the programme is set in, and actually in Salford itself.

I agree, can you imagine if they moved Corrie to Leeds or even worse down South!

Its very sad the studios are closing, I hope they dont demolish anything! They could use the main building for office space or turn it into a hotel (It looks a bit like a Travel Lodge type building from the outside anyway!) - the bonded warehouse, im not sure if that could be a listed building? Its years old so id have thought they would have got rid by now if they could. Hopefully that and the old Corrie set will be kept for some sort of tourist attraction!

The Sun report has said exactly that.

Manchester and Salford are certainly separate and distinct entities, and although the threat title is technically correct, it is rather misleading for those not familiar with the local geography.

All reports seem to indicate that the new exterior set will also be located at MediaCityUK, so I'm somewhat confused by your reference to the 'town of Trafford'.

Is this a new name for the area? If so, it's an odd choice, as Trafford is the name of one of the other boroughs of Greater Manchester, and even that name was a compromise which doesn't refer to an actual town or city.

EDIT :
I've just looked at some online maps, and many show the area surrounding Trafford Park and the Trafford Centre as having the general name of 'Trafford', although it seems to have no defined boundaries and is perhaps just a colloquial term.

It's rather an odd choice, given the potential confusion with the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford.

The area is actually called "Broadway" or "Salford Quays" depending on how you look at it.

There is no "Trafford" as a town, it's an old district of Greater Manchester. Trafford Borough Council still operate.

So, ITV Granada and Coronation Street aren't actually leaving Manchester - they're just moving. Salford is a city separate to Manchester, however where the new MediaCity.uk is located it's not within the boundaries of the City of Salford, it's within the City of Manchester (near Eccles).

Also passing ITV Granada today, there is a lot of scaffolding where the old GRANADA TV logo used to be - I am wondering if they are putting it back?

Today's Manchester Evening News has also said the Museum of Science & Industry are considering the acquisition
of the current Corrie outdoor set, and incorporating it into it's existing facilities. It'd be good if the Museum could
also acquire the famous GRANADA TV sign that was taken down from the Granada offices a few months ago.

it's a shame it's closing, but of course ITV is very much a shadow of its former self, the Granada I knew is non existant now.

looking at the plans for the new set it's funny to see the real building, bonded warehouse and science museum, will become facades, I think the museum is in with a winner acquiring the corry set as a lot of people visited the museum just for a peek at it out of the windows,

or was that just me Embarassed

should be some exciting developments there, maybe they will have the sets inside the external lot which would look better

2012 is a good time to move exactly 30 years since the current set opened
