ITV and Coronation Street have confirmed its to move its Manchester-based operations, including Coronation Street, to MediaCity. They're expected to take up offices on the Salford Quays and Trafford side of the development in 2012.

As expected.

That's a shame. Granada TV should stay at its famous Manchester studios with the GRANADA TV lettering. Coming from Preston / Bolton direction on the train, you pass them as you enter Manchester Piccadilly station.

Granada TV moving out of the said Manchester studios is as bad as knocking down the former Westward/TSW studios at Derry's Cross Plymouth. I hope they don't remove the Granada TV lettering and don't knock down the old Granada studios. The Granada studios should be grade 2 listed, with the lettering as part of the listing.

Although it's a shame ITV is to leave Quay Street it's good to hear that a decision has been made, and ITV are still remaining comitted to Manchester for sometime to come, even if Regional News dies off. Although it's unclear what will happen to Jeremy Kyle, Countdown and University Challenge, as all three regularly use Quay Street, I hope they relocated to Salford along with Coronation Street.

The GRANADA TV lettering was taken down a few months ago, due to "health and safety" concerns, as the fixtures
had apparently become badly coroded over time. There was some speculation that the lettering may be put back
up where it was, or put on display at the nearby Manchester Science and Industry Museum.

As for the main 3Sixty Media studios, they'll probably move to Salford Quays as well eventually, once the Corrie
move is complete, or possibly at the same time. Regarding the Corrie outdoor set , although I think it's highly
unlikely, I would hope ITV choose not to pull it down, and open it up to the public as an attraction.

Hopefully, the new Corrie outdoor set is to be built to more realistic proportions, and the Rovers Return would
seem less like a TARDIS disguised as a back street pub, and look more like an actual pub from the outside!

Ironically, I was thinking about this whole subject of Corrie moving to MediaCityUK on the way home last night.

It's not really is it? Derry's Cross wasn't as iconic and had ceased to be a TV studio 17 years previously

Back to Granada, I thought ITV had decided not to go to Salford and refurbish Quay Street instead.

I don't believe for one second you were unaware of the lettering having been removed.

Not one second.

The new boss arrived and decided to reopens talks earlier this year

I'm glad they're moving, Corrie outgrew the current set years ago, it's the longest running soap, but it had the most limited set
