Don't forget, Vuiacom, Hallmark, or haim Saban could yet scupper the Carlton-Granada merger - which would change everything, as the policies of any new owner would likely be different.

Interesting use of the word "scupper".

Anyway, the chances of any future new owner of ITV reinstating regional continuity are pretty much nill. If anything they would be even more profit-driven than ITV is now.

But surely that's just a case of "statin' the bleedin' obvious".

Different owners, different policies. That's EXACTLY why good old HTV transmission and continuity has now been "Carltonised" into LNN.

So Nick, how long do you think before ITV1Wales disappears?

...and exactly why it's possible that another owner could undo it all! We just don't know yet.

How very optimistic of you. Given that the general public don't appear to have noticed that regional presentation has disappeared, why do you think a company that exists solely to make money would choose to spend millions of pounds a year bringing it back?

Because they'll want to remove all traces of Carlton and Granada? So production slides and idents match? Simply to refresh ITV's image?

Now, there's an interesting question, Matt.

Are you asking with your "journo" hat on? In which case, "No comment"!

Strictly from personal speculation, with NO hard facts, and totally off the record, I think it'll last in vision for quite some time.

There are problems, as we know, with the different audio, so I wouldn't be suprised if the announcements were merged into the "main stream" and were common across the network, except for local programmes, where Wales would be treated just like Tyne-Tees or Meridian.

However, there aren't any problems, OR any ADDITIONAL costs for that matter, in keeping the captions, break bumpers and other visual items different, with the "Wales" word still included. I'd, therefore, expect that side of it to stay for quite some time.

However, as I said, just personal speculation.

I was just interested. Also, here's something that's been puzzling me. Why isn't there a clean feed of the network anymore?

Could HTV theoritically decide that their presentation was now substandard and therefore take control and do it themselves from Wales?

They still THEORETICALLY could, yes, because the old transmission equipment at Culverhouse Cross hasn't yet been dismantled, to my knowledge.

HOWEVER, there's absolutely NO way they would, because their transmission has gone to LNN in London, which is half owned by Carlton, whilst they, themselves, are wholly owned by Carlton, so they wouldn't be ALLOWED to do so by the powers-that-be.

And of ourse there is no 'they' in Cardiff anyway..... no-one to want such a thing to happen in the first place

There is a clean of the network..... it contains all the networked bits, but none of the regional bits from the South Bank, Leeds, Glasgow and Belfast add their bits on top of it

But it contains the idents, which means Belfast, Glasgow and Wales SE1 have to try and cover them up.
