Has anyone seen a variation of the ITV1 generic ident where the final form-up has the tiles rotate into position from being alternately vertical and horizontal? Sort of like this:

| -- | --

It looks to me like the the standard generic ident has all the tiles rotate from being vertical (but side-on), and the night-time variant has the action obscured by mist. However, I know this variation exists because I have the form-up bit of it on tape (apparently played out by mistake though, as it's sandwiched between two adverts during a regular break). Is this a known version? (It is accompanied by a chime-y jingle, if that helps to identify it).

I think the long version of the clouds background ident debuted last night, at the 2.25am news junction. It was that ident, but am I right in thinking it was the first airing? I know a short version had already been shown, but not the long one. I didn't see the animation though, as I had teletext on, and took it off in time to see a fully formed logo.

The correct mid-break bumper has four squares on it - that was an ident you saw. All the non-celebrity idents have the same jingle.

Yes, it certainly looked like an ident (it resolves into the usual ITV1 logo on the black and blue background). This went out on ITV1 Meridian (analogue) during the ad-break between "Dragnet" and "Sleeping With The Enemy" at about ten minutes past midnight last Wednesday night / Thursday morning. I'm pretty sure it was not the same jingle that's used on the other generic idents, which suggests to me that it's an unused variant. Sorry I can't capture it, but if no-one can identify it as one of the regular idents, I can always contribute to one of the pres sites by the tape-in-the-post method.

But do most sites give postal addresses? No!

No, no, no - it's too shsort to be an ident! If that's what you're referring to, it was always intended to be a bumper - remember, the night time schedule is not handled by Carlton or Granada.

It was too long to be a break bumper - the opening frame appeared frozen on screen for a couple of seconds (so I'm sure that was a cock-up) then there was five seconds of animation, accompanied by a jingle which sounds like it's played on a glockenspiel with lots of echo. And it cut out rather suddenly at the end. The other ads in that break were separated with the usual bumper.

As for websites not giving postal addresses - no, obviously they don't. But what's to stop a tape exchange being arranged by email? (I've done this before, you know!)

I think you mean the 4th breakbumper here? Unfortunately, it can't be downloaded but it does sound like the one, is longer than your average breakbumper and does have sound but it's definitely a breakbumper. In full, it is an ident called "Peaktime" and is available at The TV Room. Scottish/Grampian showed it for a while.

And no, the long Daytime version has been seen - I've got one shown in the wee small hours from the end of May.

Well it clearly isn't seen very often then! Why can't ITV1 rotate the idents more?

IIRC, the white cloud version is used before breaking news only.

And it has been used by Border since the end of last year.

A few days a few weeks ago they used the clouds ident before the news all day, I think they also used it today as well
