WWTBAM is in need of a major revamp. I think only the title images, the hotseat area and lighting colour has been changed since 1998.

Its obviously kept going because it was once a worldwide hit and is still shown in other countries.

Note also there is no longer Chris saying "Last time on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" at the start of the show. This reduces the 'suspense' element.

I think if ITV did revamp however, they would probably introduce an ITV2 'backstage show' after hosted by someone like Matt 'boring' Brown and it would probably go the same way as Blind Date with Tarrant deciding to leave and the show scrapped. Tricky situation really.

Blimey, I'd forgotton about the start of show recap!

Millionaire was something great to have on every once in a while...the 2 / 3 week runs on every night were great. But eventually it got boring as ITV relied on it too much.

I can sort of see Deal Or No Deal going the same way - though Noel's personality and the fact it's not a "Question - Answer" show makes it a bit more exciting. It's developing into it's own show now with Noel truly himself and players bonding like anyone's business.

Perhaps it's time for a "Super Millionaire" like ABC did in America. £10 million top prize anyone?

Yes, true.

Though I'd like to see a new series of Win Lose Or Draw Late - Liza Tarbuck was excellent last time and it was the kind of thing that went well at that time.

The Sunday' Monday's and Friday's would do well in today's world - just a matter of upping the prizes!!!! Some the daytime ones I do tend to agree, that's why I left out Tell The Truth, Concentration, supermarket Sweep etc.... but would be good to see again just to be proved wrong!
The Krypton Factor and Busman's Holiday I feel could make it, though whilst the other two on my fantasy Thursday are a good possibility, but again a "dont really know category"

Just got to remember the more basic the gameshow/quiz show is the more probability it will be a hit.

I bet you would play Space Invaders or Tetris if you had copies of it, rather than the more intense press various buttons for action games on a games console!!!!!

To me WWTBAM was "Event" television. When it first started it was on for 30 minutes EVERY night for 3 weeks at a time. To me it was spolit when they changed the format to 2 one hour episodes on a Tuesday and a Saturday, and now it is a real dead horse although there is only 1 one hour episode a week.

It is now a tried format - if anything they should have kept it as "Event" Television every night for 3 weeks about 2 to 3 times a year.

Spot on.

It also has a fundamental flaw because of its in-built shelf life. When it first appeared we all watched because we wanted to witness the euphoria of the first person winning a million. After that happened the interest diminished every time another person won a million. The excitement was also spoiled by the fact that the tabloids always found out about the big winners in advance of the show going out.

We now know the person in the chair isn't going to win the big one because it would have been in the papers beforehand. And there's very little excitement value in watching someone win £64k or £125k and then walk away.

It still has limited appeal to pub quiz enthusiasts who like sitting there shouting answers at the telly, but that can be achieved by a low budget daytime quiz.

Is that post serious - firstly The Price is Right IS coming back

...according to The Sun. You do realise The Sun just makes up its gameshow revival rumours at random, don't you? Every Monday morning, they have someone pick numbers out of a bag.

NUMBER FIFTY-FOUR!

..."The Price is Right", to be hosted by...

NUMBER SEVENTY-ONE!

...Joe Pasquale!

NUMBER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN!

"Monkhouse's Memory Masters", to be hosted by...

NUMBER EIGHT!

...Vanessa Feltz!

Other gameshows I'd like to come back are....
Wheel of Fortune with Patrick McGuiness (Paddy from Phoenix NIght/Max & Paddy)

Patrick's doing a new comedy "Scruples"-type quiz for Channel 4, that should be along in the Spring.

I agree, I used to watch it every night for 2-3 weeks when it started, once someone won the million though it became boring.

6.9 million people watched WWTBAM on Saturday though - that's still quite an impressive figure!

The Krypton Factor definitely needs to come back!!! It will be interesting to see where this show rates in the UKgameshows.com recent poll. As someone said earlier, this is not the 1980's. fair point - but showing Emmerdale Farm 6 nights a week at 7.00pm is FAR TOO MUCH .

You say WWTBAM has a shelf life? Well, so does Emmerdale - especially since ITV are relying on it so much. There will come a certain time when even Emmerdale doesn't pull in the punters anymore. A change to gameshows would be a refreshing change in the ITV stall this year! After SO many years of very few gameshows.

And there 8.30pm slots could work well too I reckon for a gameshow. A highbrow gameshow probably - like The Krypton Factor or Strike it Rich. The other more youthful gameshows would suit a 7.00pm slot.

ITV should forget about Emmerdale and put on the shows that they are famous for! Family Fortunes and The Price is Right returning is a good sign, if ever I saw one! Bring Back Knightmare - OOooo...the memories.

What has happened to Knightmare VR by the way????

Would a gameshow get the same ratings as Emmerdale though? Unless it did the gameshow would be reported as a flop.

Having said that though, they could easilly drop the Sunday edition of Emmerdale. No ITV boss will drop the main weekday editions for many years to come

I can exclusively reveal that it's done fairly well, you'll just have to wait for the results to go up soon to find out exactly how well!
