I thought this did make a second series with slightly different rules.

It didn't.

I think they actually changed the rules slightly mid first series if I remember correctly

Yes, I just looked it up on ukgameshows.com, they did 12 episodes in total and the rules changed after episode 6.

Completely agree Duel should have got a second series. Though it never set ratings alight, it did maintain and slightly increase it's audience over it's run and ITV would have been better off giving it a second shot rather than coming up with another new format which was destined to flop.

Most of all though unlike many TV shows lately it was pretty original.

I would also have liked a second series of Duel but in this day and age once the critics get their claws in and it is labelled a flop then there is only one outcome, the axe.

ITV should stay the hell away from gameshows unless they keep off the territory of horribly-cheesy themes or the disgustingly common serious tone that's plagued many game shows nowadays.

there should bring back Strike it lucky, or Proper Catchphrase

Catchphrase has already been regurgitated twice (Nick Weir and Mark Curry). And they were both crap.

With regards to Strike It Lucky it too was effectively relaunched as Strike It Rich in 1996 due to a dispute over the original name, it lasted three years and while the cosmetics were effectively crap it became more and more about the strange contestants over the entire run. Even Barrymore said himself once that the format was, to quote, a "pile of crap".

The problem with Nick Weir's version was that the rules changed and although the premise of the show was still there it just was not catchphrase, whilst the Mark Curry version was aimed at a daytime audience and not primetime!

In fact the only other version that was actually faithful to the original was Family Catchphrase!

Goes to show that changes for changes sake are not necessarily a good thing for long standing formats

Last year there was a game show that replaced the loose women slot at 12:30 where they had to pull those things out the floor to see if it goes red. Any idea what it's called?

ITV1 dumped the remaining episodes of 'For the Rest of your Life' during the day time last year.

Nice to see some new, what seem to be, fun and exciting Saturday night game shows tonight; Odd One IN and Magic Numbers. I don't know if it's me getting carried away by the concept of two new gameshows in what was once a truly epic timeslot for ITV, but hopefully, they won't be a letdown.

They should bring back Wheel Of Fortune with that great music! Its amazing when you see videos of Wheel Of Fortune on YouTube, how it kept going downhill over the years. A great atmosphere in the late eighties to no atmosphere in 2001 with poor presenters, studio and opener.

Yes and no one even asked for the original format to be scrapped, or for Roy Walker to lose the host's role.
