I would love to see that level of sheer talent coming from the UK. The US show was mindblowing at times.

The X Factor was a total flop, it was on Network Ten (same as Australian Idol - even shared a judge), and rated very poorly. Idol has been pretty successful, so has Dancing With the Stars - so much so that Seven were doing two series a year at one point. It more or less alternates on Seven with It Takes Two, they share the same set here in Melbourne and have pretty similar formats.

Nine's experiments with shows like Dancing on Ice were failures too, this was in 2006 when it seemed that nothing they tried worked all that well. A lot of those types of things with names starting with "Celebrity..."

SYTYCD did very well.

I think "So You Think You Can Dance" is far too close to the BBC "Strictly Dance Fever" format for anyone to pick it up just yet...

The BBC has been co-producing for years with the likes of HBO, Showtime & WHGB Boston.

Yes but it's not an on-going thing is it? It's 'one-offs' - though as you say, it has been fairly regular.
