The new ITV font is now embedded in a PDF on ITV World Cup site. It is embedded, but as it has been shown with the Channel 4 font, it can be extracted.

This is illegal, and shouldnt be discussed here...

Grey area really - they've released the font embedded with no encryption or security surrounding it, therefore anyone who downloads the PDF can extract the font file. In the same way as accessing someone else's insecure wireless connection is currently in a grey area, if they don't secure the font better people can extract it quite legally.

Using the font without authorisation is the illegal matter.

Even if you use encryption and passwording on the PDFs, that is easily breakable by using any number of utilities available by typing the relevant keywords in Google.

But that would take it into the grounds of illegal activity - knowingly breaking into something somebody has tried to secure. Unsecured embedded fonts, however, can be downloaded without bypassing any security, therefore may be extracted legally.

A more full set was in another pdf...

Why do people want this font so badly? ITV pay probably lots of money for the font company to produce this font to give the channel some individuality and specialty. People who try to rip this font are basically ripping off ITV and doing this illegally.

Because we are fans of TV pres and want the font for our own private use? It is not my intention to exploit it for commercial gain.

If Fontsmith or ITV decided to make the font commercially available, we could purchase legitimately and support the designers. Alas it is not, so anyone with the appropriate software can redraw the glyphs and make up their own.

I downloaded a program called AltSoft FTMaster, which, although it won't allow you to change or resave the characters, will at least allow you to view them in "lathe mode" to show the exact shape and curvature.

BTW, where is this other PDF?
