If STV is sold to ITV, and if Liberty Global does launch a bid and win - given what we've seen over the other side of the Irish Sea - does any Ofcom rules on channel names rule out ITV becoming VM3 over here?

Ireland and the UK are two very different markets. Liberty Global treat Ireland as their little children, pat on the head but otherwise do as daddy says.

ITV in the UK is here to stay, no matter who buys it. Look at the botched Channel 3 attempts in Yorkshire and Tyne Tees in the mid 1990s, did not last long.

This thread has gone so far down the road of fantasy, I think you’d need to catch a bus back.

STV is going to be sold, it is sold, it’s sold to ITV, they rebrand it, axe half the news, change Border, and then ITV get’s sold themselves, who then rebrand the whole of ITV to be called something else Laughing

You mist out the fact the new owner will have split the company up into two parts to make even more money, broadcasting side and the production side..
Is the next post dreaded?

More likely in the event of a Liberty Global takeover (which I would not write off completely in the longer term) that VMTV would become part of ITV - they are living off ITV’s programmes anyway - though that might not necessarily mean them changing branding.
