It is a shame that ITV Encore has closed, but Poirot reruns are returning to ITV3 later in May.

Next week actually.

But it's also part of the reason why the Encore channel struggled; very few programmes were new, an over-reliance on repeated content that would have fitted better on ITV3, and showcasing drama already aired on the main ITV channel FTA. It completely deflated the channel's business model.

That was the channels business model, the clue was in the name ‘Encore’.

I stand corrected. But its proposition still felt muddied; original content or first run programming didn't fit the name, though.

Never really understood the purpose of Encore as it seemed to fit the same remit as ITV3.

I believe the concept originally was to show dramas that recently aired on ITV, in addition to some classic drama not on ITV3.

In the end, I think it mainly repeated Island at War and Poirot.

The idea seemed to be to create a British HBO that would attract upmarket audiences looking for quality drama, which was all very well, but people were happy enough watching that on ITV itself. I get the impression that it was supposed to aim at people who wouldn't usually watch ITV, but if that was the case, why include ITV in the name?

I also thought it was ridiculous how in the daytime they repeated stuff like Heartbeat and Peak Practice. If you're selling yourself as the home of glossy and upmarket drama, what's the value in showing stuff like that? It just made it look even more like ITV3. They'd have been better off not showing anything in the day rather than showing that.

I am pleased it went because I have Virgin and dislike channels which are only available on Sky.

How do you know you dislike them if you don’t have them?
