Channel 4's presentation is so much better than anyone else's, even down to the promos and ecp.

ITV's is awful, and UTV presentation is the worst I've ever seen.

Is the ITV Productions animation at the very end of the programmes due for a refresh or facelift as well or just the credits ?

Again that is very true, channel 4 have it down to a t. Their idents are fantastic, especially compared to anything else in recent years. Their overall presentation is fantastic.
The only thing that has let channel 4 down recently are the new channel ecp's. Especially when the channel 4 original end credit and in programme promotion were much neater, animated cleanly in the same way as the end caps/break bumpers, etc. animate, yet they go and change them all for something very inferior.

I have a feeling they may go down this ECP style route very soon..

Agree - the blue thing is ugly and not an improvement on the white - and considering the rest of the package has remained in the white, it's rather pointless.

They seem to have dumped using the pop-up strap at the end of programmes now - but annoyingly squeeze the picture for the bar they use now rather than just overlaying it.

I do think though it's time for C4 to change their ECP style as I think ultimately the "lower third" format does look better. It does need to be a bit more credits and a bit less promo than ITV's version though - and IMO they should nick the concept of ITV's old ECP (but horizontally rather than vertically) and put the credits in the centre, cropping them when the ECP is used and displaying them full screen when not.

Fairly obvious the credits have shrunk I know but here's an overlay of old vs new (I assume Corrie/Emmerdale credits were the same size previously)

They're still fairly legible I guess and don't go too fast so I suppose we should be thankful but, as ever, ITV1's animation techniques are stuck in the PowerPoint c.1995 era. There's nothing swish or glossy about the menu design. Solid colour background (what about the nice idents as backgrounds??) and overly huge text coupled with a boring "text fly in" effect. It's all half-hearted and generally rubbish. If they're going to fill 80% (80%!!) of the screen with an ECP or menu, put some effort in to the design to at least give us something decent to look at.

EDIT: See Lee's nice ECP/endcap mock thread which is visually close to what I'd like to see instead.

BBC One's ECP design is a disgrace in terms of practicality but does look and animate well.

The new ECPs are an improvement in my opinion.

Agreed there Asa, it seems like it's the whole of ITV though not just the ECP's. as Lee has demonstrated by creating his version of the ITV productions cap in the mocks forum, the only things that seem to look nice and professional are the things made for them (with the exception of CITV who do impressive things with their team in Manchester that ITV should use more).

Even when you look at things such as News and Sport, the graphics are very flat, and basic. Compare ITV's champions league graphics to sky sport's, and you'll notice a hell of a lot of difference, even the BBC have been able to add a shiny, glossy look to their old 2D graphics, and animate them well.

Perhaps someone needs to update ITV's software for them.

For me, the most positive aspect of the new ECPs is that the credits themselves "stay put", and don't get pushed around or minimised.
It is the first time since the Hearts Era that this has been the case, with what is still my personal favourite (the smokey Hearts vertical bar down the right-hand side of the screen).

However, as many have mentioned, the size of the credits does leave more than a little to be desired...

I like the new ECPs although I don't like the black background of the credits which should be overlayed on th program-specific background. The credits should be american style with them at least a third of the screen. But still these are far superior to the boring blue 'curtains' circa January 2006 - October 2007.

The Pride of Britain Awards, if anybody is interested, just had scrolling upwards stacked credits with no ECP.

Saddeningly the death of the blue bars has not affected those truly disgusting 'Previously' and 'Next time' straps that curse all ITV dramas. Sad
