New ECP style unveiled on Emmerdale tonight (September 2007)

Grr at the use of Arial on the new-style UTV ECP, too.

Why is that always a criticism of UTV?

Notice that STV, and the end-credits of Emmerdale, both use the same font as well!!

Interesting to see Emmerdale still using Helvetica rather than the ITV custom font.

Overall, an improvement on the previous ECP look, but the text on the credits really is too small. The crappy resolution of ITV on DSat especially makes it rather difficult to read.

They use Swiss/Helvetica don't they? Of course there is nothing much different about the fonts though but I think the gripe is that Arial is the default font in many cases and its usage is seen as lazy.

Here's the corrie closing credits:

Those credits would look better with out the ECP.

New graphics are a vast improvement over the old ones.

They are too quick and small to read. A slight increase in the size of the credits and a slow down will make it much better.

I notice Corrie has gone back to (C)2007 Granada Television Ltd... I haven't caught anything else.

Can anyone say if the copyrights are "back as they should be" across the board or is it just a mistake?

Emmerdale still had the "ITV" copyright.

I hope the other programmes catch up soon - having two looks running at once annoys me and the old ECPs look even worse - and even more intrusive - now when they're used.

You'd have thought that they would have got all programmes that were to air after 08/10/07 ready with the new credit design. What are live programmes such as this morning doing? Are they still using the old design?

The only other thing that I was thinking when watching police camera action last night is what will they do with programmes where there is a mass of staff (pride of britain, national television awards, etc.), and/or people to copyright (police camera action, bloopers shows, etc.)? They used to just shrink the text and air them with the old design.

And is this really the lower third, it's more like the lower fifth, I was expecting more text to appear.

It would be around a fifth I guess.

For lots of graphics I guess they could either have a couple of frames full screen before switching to the ECP (or after), or even do some scrolling thing and then just air that in the bottom - though you'd have to be quite quick to read it!

Indeed, a scrolling idea may work though, although the first two frames large is another idea, though the transition between full screen and the bar would look difficult.
