It does look like a rush-job.

Using the ITV brand on the Royal Family goes against the policy that productions made for transmission on other channels would continue to carry the Granada name.

The company making the DVD and the company who made the programme are two different things, I'd expect that the endcap at the end of the programme on the DVD would be Granada

Ahh - The programme was made by Granada, and the DVD by ITV DVD? Are the two not related - is ITV DVD not part of ITV PLC?

I cannot believe that is not the case, but who knows! Perhaps ITV plc should start using the name of the old ITV companies. Bizarely, thought there were more names, at least we all understood where we stood!

Yes, it does say A Granada Production, just as it did on transmission.

I don't see a problem with ITV DVD releasing a programme that was shown on the BBC. In fact, I don't see why they can't put An ITV Production on BBC One or Channel 4. Why hide behind a different name?

What IS confusing, is that ITV DVD is a Granada Ventures subsidary, which in turn is an ITV Plc subsidary.

I believe that the sensitivity with using the ITV brand is more with other broadcasters, which, to me, suggests that the name "ITV Productions" should not have been used to replace the previous regional company names.

My proposal would be that the regional production centre names were kept, but with an ITV Productions logo added underneath

This would have reinforced ITV's regional structure, recognised local talent, yet confirmed that they were part of a bigger organisation.

For example, Emmerdale's endcap text would say "A Yorkshire Television Production" with the text and logo "ITV Productions" to the bottom of the logo.

Where a programme is produced for another network, the text would change to read (for example) "A Granade Television Production for the BBC"

That raises a good point, the ITV productions logo doesn't have the split at the end of the logo

They have done it before, remember the 2001-2004 GMG Group endcaps? They all had the Regional company, logo, the title ie. 'An X Production' and they all had the GR/N/D/ logo underneath.

Though as ITV Productions is one unit then I see your arguement being stronger to have a Regional name used on the endcap rather than ITV or Granada.

I don't see anything wrong with advertising a programme maker on another channel (ie. Granada, Yorkshire etc), but I think many would find using ITVP on another channel rather strange, with many used to ITV showing the programmes rather than making them, which is now the norm of course.

I'd find it odd seeing 'An ITV Production for Channel Four' at the end of Countdown. But it's common in the States, Paramount (who own 50% of The CW and it's parent group runs CBS) makes programmes for other channels, Warner Brothers did the same, as do 20th Century Fox..

Wouldn't 'an ITV Yorkshire/Region' production surfice?

That's a nice ident, although probably knocked up in an afternoon in the pub on the back of a fag packet (like C3NE) but still better than BUSY BEE created for them Laughing

Agree the music could do with spicing up abit. Why not use the old LWT "flying bits" music seeing as the ident is so similar Shocked

Theres something about the ITV logo. Its needs more style. The font is apalling.

I did think that originally, but when it's put into a well designed ident/animation, it looks as good as anything else would. And the branding of the seperate logos creates a great collective brand, more coherant than BBC at the moment.

The only one that doesn't fit perfect it CITV, but that still uses the ITV font.

that idents beats ITV1 easily, even if it was created in an afternoon!

Visually, I do like it much more than what ITV are using for their channel identities at the moment!

The music is however a bit too sedate, and needs more kick to it.

Not meaning to pick on you... this to to the people that dont like the Idents and insist on saying Red Bee are to blame?

Surely ITV chose them as the set to use from lots of alternitaves (who knows how many diffrent sets and ideas they came up with). Its the ITV execs that chose them.
