Thought you might want to see this:

Taken off the slightly rushed Royle Family DVD, which has only half the special features advertised. I contacted ITV DVD (aka Granada Ventures) and they said it was a 'rush job' and the advertised features were sent Amazon, Play.com etc before it was actually produced. They were surprisingly friendly and candid!

I digress... back to the ident. IMO it's better than the ITV1 idents! You could quite easily put a ONE instead of DVD.

It sort of reminds me of the 1996 LWT ident.

Do you mean the 1993 LWT ident?

According to the new ITV Brand Guidelines (as set by RedBee when they made it) that logo has broken the rules!!

Naughty!

How?

It's probably because the right side of the logo doesn't split off with the DVD inbetween. Decides, Red Bee are bad designers, I would go against their rules anyday, and ITV are right to do so. It's much better than any other ITV idents anyday. I agree with Andy, it does remind me of the 1996 LWT ident, but no where near as good!

It says that a new logo shouldn't be made from tacking text on the end, and the 'DVD' bit doesn't look like the official font to me. It does look like they just wrote it on the end, plus I think most of the logos should be in lowercase (like the ITV Play logo).

It could of course be (and is probably quite likely to be) an official logo made by them, and i'm just looking at it in the wrong aspect ratio, which is basically big egg on my face... Embarassed

That was an interesting ident, much better than the other ITV1 idents. I find it interesting that it's ITV DVD because most of the archived programmes back then would show a GR/N/D/ logo instead.

But then again I would say that it reminds me of the 1992 AND 1996 LWT idents because the 1992 has chunks coming from the left to form itv while the 1996 one has random Channel 4 esque blocks filling the screen.

I would love to see ITV1 using something like this. The tune needs beefing up though

It does look like a rush-job.

The current ITV logo lacks gravity - it is too "cartoonish". The previous logo was much better - and was axed far too soon.

Using the ITV brand on the Royal Family goes against the policy that productions made for transmission on other channels would continue to carry the Granada name. Still - This is just another example of how mixed-up ITV's identity is - regional programmes are supposed to have their local ITV name included on the pre-programme ident, but even that seems too simple an exercise to execute!

It's a nice ident, it reminds me of the old GR/N/D/ one that was on their DVD's a few years ago. It's a very un-ITV ident, but different to say the least.

I think up until rather recently everything they released was under the Granada brand, but their link between VCI seems to have ended and they now distribute their own DVD's, same goes for Channel 4 aswell.

I agree about the confusion, but it makes more business sense to have it as ITV DVD rather than Granada Ventures/DVD compared to BBC DVD and Channel 4 DVD.

Since ITV DVD has come alive, quite a few things have been released from the archives such as Cracker, Prime Suspect and The Booze Cruise trilogy (which I have as well as The Royle Family: QOS DVD)

The company making the DVD and the company who made the programme are two different things, I'd expect that the endcap at the end of the programme on the DVD would be Granada
