It's no loss really. And I've never been a fan of these self-congratulatory luvvy-fests.

Have you ever actually watched the Comedy Awards? They've hardly a "luvvie-fest" They've always been pretty tongue in cheek and are by far the most entertaining awards show. It'll be a shame to lose it over trash like the NTA's - where every award is determined by a public vote. Does anyone believe they're completely above board? Rolling Eyes

A report on numerous other ITV participation shows is due in October and according to Media Guardian some executives are reported to have seen a copy "which is believed to make uncomfortable reading for ITV."

I'm assuming it would be very tricky for the BBC to show because of the overt Onetel (or whoever it is now) sponsorship.

I never worked out how they got away with plugging the sponsor during the show, and having their name plastered on the podium. I thought sponsorship of commercial shows was only permitted if the plugging occurred outside the show - i.e. on break bumpers - but not within in it as that would constitute product placement.

There we go, thats a programme dropped from the early Christmas schedules.

How long before they ditch NTA and the Soap Awards.

I always thought the Comedy Awards was worth watching due to its unpredictability with drunk comedians trying to outdo eachother and Ross acting the straightman.

They won't drop the NTA or Soap Awards because ITV win some awards in them!

The comedy awards are the only ceremony worth watching, there's nearly always some magic moment and the opening monologue is always a joy

I think it might be because it's an event being shown on TV - just like a sports event is sponsored and might feature representatives from the company involved.

The fact that it is going ahead despite having a broadcaster this year would seem to suggest this is the case

Why that particular event was 14 years ago. The person affected is no longer in the public eye. Julian Clary has established him again and even did a childrens show recently from a spin off from a train a dog type series. (Can't remember the title)

Julian may have moved on in his career but there's nothing to stop someone else catching everyone unawares at the expense of a currently serving politician...

No problem with that as long as it's funny! That's what's so good about the comedy awards - unpredictability. There's very few live primetimeprogrammes where such a thing could happen

Yes it seems everything nowadays has to be heavily edited and shown under a Reality TV umberella.

I agree. Although Wossy is the "straightman" when linking the awards, he spends the first ten mintues of the show slagging everyone off-- that's one of the things I like about the BCA! Doesn't take itself too seriously.
