I never have liked these entertainment industry self-congratulatory shows.
It's just an excuse for a nice meal, to slap each other on the back and then make alcohol-induced acceptance speeches complete with feigned modesty and thanking everyone from Auntie Mabel's cat to their Chauffeur for their amazing achievement.
It doesn't make to good TV IMO.

I've just read the Media Guardian website about this and it appears that ITV want to take it up next year and theres a possibility that this years will go to a different broadcaster. All stems to the public vote of 2005 where people were able to vote still after the choice had been made.

Why is Channel 4 not a possibility? I'm sure they'd jump at it. They do more comedy now than ITV anyway

I don't know. I get a certain amount of schadenfreude from watching the 'losers' clapping heartily at the winner, with a smile that says "well done, good on you....you... you smug overrated b-stard. I deserved that award! I'm not bitter or anything, honest".

There we go, thats a programme dropped from the early Christmas schedules.
How long before they ditch NTA and the Soap Awards.
I always thought the Comedy Awards was worth watching due to its unpredictability with drunk comedians trying to outdo eachother and Ross acting the straightman.

It's no loss really. And I've never been a fan of these self-congratulatory luvvy-fests.
ITV have probably dropped the Comedy Awards because they have always been a compliance liability...Julian Clary has much to answer for.

Why that particular event was 14 years ago. The person affected is no longer in the public eye. Julian Clary has established him again and even did a childrens show recently from a spin off from a train a dog type series. (Can't remember the title)
