BIG IF HERE:

ITV say that's it calls it a day and decide to get out of the PBS rat race and decide to go further up the EPG.

what about ITV2, 3, 4? CITV there all part of the remit, I can;t seem them allowed to keep those other channel in such high EPG place, In frewview would that actully get taken off as a new PBS ch3 company might demand that space for there own use!

mean ITV would only have 1 main channel across the whole broad would there not?

ITV2, ITV3 and so on aren't classed as PSBs by Ofcom. Only the BBC channels and the three terrestrial commercial channels are.

On Sky and cable, there'd be no direct implications for ITV2, ITV3 and so on. Ofcom has nothing to do with their channel numbers.

Freeview's a bit more complex. After five moves multiplexes, ITV2 and ITV3 will be the only additional ITV services broadcast on a PSB multiplex. ITV could potentially lose this space, of course, if they gave up PSB status... just as STV and UTV could reclaim the space in their areas.

However ITV still has the space on other multiplexes, currently used for ITV2+1, CITV and shortly ITV4. It could hire other space if it was available. But if it was unable to do this it could sacrifice some channels on Freeview.

As for numbers, I think Ofcom's only concerned with slots 1 to 5. The others are matters for negotiation between the broadcasters afaik.

Hope this helps.

On Freeview, ITV could retain LCN 6 and as already said have other streams available. In theory it could stay at 103 on Sky, the obligation is only for PSB channels to get a priority slot. So it could lead to a little reshuffling and the 'new' Channel 3 gaining a different position. I'm not too sure about Virgin Media.
