Is it too much to ask that with this 'new identity' we'll see some schedule refreshes?

If not I just hope we get new News graphics, a new logo and an exclusive font, like Channel 4. A real 'identity' that's well done, like Four's is.

. Also... a new look for ITV News? I think I'd like to see a simple look along the lines of the 1996 set. I'm guessing that studio is now used for ITV London now, but something which doesn't distract would at least make the ITV News barely watchable.

After the current one cost them upwards of a million quid?

Well I'm not really expecting them to change it... this is ITV after all. But it would be nice to get rid of that 'Theatre of News'.

After just a year and a half? I think we'll still be seeing the theatre of news for many years.

How could there be any sort of brand recognition if stuff changes all the time. Just look at the (supposedly good old days) of the regional idents, most areas had one single ident in every junction for 3 or 4 years at a time

You seem to miss my point. ITV aren't going to drop the theatre of news... but essentially I hate it.
And on the point of regional idents... perhaps the reason each one lasted several years was because most of them had a bit of thought put into them. Unlike "ITV1" which is almost as uninspiring as C3NE's idents were.

I wonder if the rebrand will also include the renaming of regions? ie: ITV North West instead of Granada? Surely its a good time to address the balance.

But why? We've seen it all before on Tyne Tees, some fools at YTV tried to rename it Channel 3 North East and all it did was confuse the staff who kept calling it Tyne Tees. It's much the same with ITV1... the newsreaders still have no idea what to call the station.

Speaking from a person who lives in the ITV West (aka HTV West) my point is that is if stations like HTV, LWT & Carlton have gone for a Burton they may as well get rid of the rest, lets face it the regions mean nothing to ITV any more as they are only regional opt outs for news and naff local programming.

Well, with ITV News having a virtual background it's easy to update the studio without any structual changes.

Hopefully they'll switch to the wavy lines that appear occassionally.

Or if you're Thames for 20 odd years!

Surely this is going to be a pain in the ass for the regional news people, as if they are getting rid of the blue and yellow look they will have to re-do their studios too. Channel TV only bought in the blue and yellow look in September. Does that mean they'll have to change it already?

Hmm.

If they're ditching yellow and blue what colours will we see?

They can't copy Channel 4 and use white...? Maybe black? Green? Red? Purple?

Well Tyne Tees are moving to The Watermark (MetroCentre) soon so they MAY go for something different. There was something in a publication saying that they were going to design their own set, though I suppose that would be yellow/blue. Hopefully not. So perhaps something new for them, but I can't see any of the other regions getting anything.

This story is sounding more and more like the "BBC approach".

Wait till all the regions have caught up with the look at the centre, then change the centre again, so all the regions are out of date.

going by the normal tyne tees way of doing things (introducing a non-hearts ident, the tynetees.tv website) they'll go out of their way to wind up London with a studio that's totally different.

I quite like the theatre of news, but the colours need to be changed, and those opening titles certainly need to be changed. The Theatre of News isn't going anywhere.
