ITV is preparing to unveil an entirely new identity later this year, shortly after the company celebrates 50 years since its creation. It will be the broadcaster's fifth identity in the past decade.

Hopefully the lowercase i t v in that awful font will disappear as well.

I was actually quite surprised when I saw this - I knew it was inevitable in the next few years, but didn't expect it so soon. I'm glad, though - what they have now is a complete mess, and I was never keen on the yellow and blue combination. Plus trying to spread the same colour scheme over their three, soon to be four channels is certainly not a good idea. Also I think they've completely exhausted the look now, with so many different encarnations in an extraordinarily small period of time.

It sounds like we'll be seeing something totally different this time, as opposed to just a re-jigg of the current logo and format, which frankly has been done to death.

I wonder if "ITV DAY" will survive this. It's crazy to rename the station depending on which time it is. Also... a new look for ITV News? I think I'd like to see a simple look along the lines of the 1996 set. I'm guessing that studio is now used for ITV London now, but something which doesn't distract would at least make the ITV News barely watchable.

I always liked the logo because it was distinctive and used a strong colour scheme. But they've messed around with it so much now its just a complete mess and not reconisable at all.

Hopefully this new look will be good for itv.

Yet another incoming marketing manager trying to make her mark.

Considering how much ITV use their colour scheme - ITV1, ITV2, ITV3, ITV News Channel, ITV News (the actual programmes), ITV Regional News (all the programmes using blue studios), a wholesale new look would be very expensive.

I can see her plans being just a new look to ITV1!

In fact it doesn't actually say the new look won't be yellow and blue, just that the current yellow and blue look would be scrapped

And you just know the minute a new look appears, most people here will hate it and want the old look bring back, like has happened with everything to do with ITV ever!

I'm quite surprised about this, I would have thought that squares would be here for some time to come. If anything it has also been very successful, more successful than the Hearts branding if you think about it. Especially since 2004 it has become fully represented with ITV. It started on ITV1 and then was spread to each and every bit of ITV News.

Can't say I'm sorry to see the 'i t v' logo go, hopefully they'll get something big instead, or go in the way of Channel 4 and letting the logo have some freedom.

Just a day after my thread! LOL

Great news and long overdue. I'd like to see a new logo, font, and of course idents for all 4 main channels, and a new look News to reflect this.

Hopefully we'll get more news soon.

After the current one cost them upwards of a million quid?

True. Although the graphics are not spectactular, and the set can easily be tweaked.

Well I'm not really expecting them to change it... this is ITV after all. But it would be nice to get rid of that 'Theatre of News'.

After just a year and a half? I think we'll still be seeing the theatre of news for many years.

How could there be any sort of brand recognition if stuff changes all the time. Just look at the (supposedly good old days) of the regional idents, most areas had one single ident in every junction for 3 or 4 years at a time
