Well they haven't yet - but are allegedly planning too with The X Factor - which would be a mistake IMO. Could explain though why plans for an Autumn Sunday show from Ant and Dec have been dropped.
Sunday nights are already looking empty though now Dancing on Ice has finished - and on Sunday at least it seemed to have a knock-on effect on the rest of the schedule. Heartbeat only got around 6m viewers - I'm sure it normally got around 8m when on after Corrie.

When have ITV ever had the results show a different night to the main show on any of their series?

Why would it "be a mistake" in your opinion?

So are you a channel executive or a viewer?
From a viewer's perspective it is a good move. It allows for a fuller recap show plus results. It strips ITV's most popular weekend show across both days.

Because they've got nothing else worth showing after 9pm on a Saturday night.
It would be interesting to see how down the ratings are for the last three months or so this year on Saturdays compared to 2007 - I'm pretty certain it wouldn't be off-set by any increase on Sunday night.

In your opinion!!!
In others people would rather not hang on 24 hours for the sake of it - and certainly in our house people think there is enough filler in the results show as it is and they should in fact be cut short, not extended.
Audition shows (both BGT and X Factor) I agree would be better stripped over the weekend (or indeed, over one week) so they don't drag on for weeks and weeks - but at the live stages it's best wrapped up on one night - LIVE - IMO.

One obvious reason for stripping across two nights is that younger children are then able to watch the results show, whereas they might have to be in bed otherwise. I know families where this happens. That said, persoanlly I'd prefer it to be on the same night.

allegedly being the word
I cant see it happening - why mess with a sucessful formula? People will stick with ITV1 after the X Factor for whatever show is on afterwards knowing the results will be on later. People therefore stay with ITV for most of Saturday nights during the Autumn season.
I do agree with you though, I would be really pissed off if I had to wait until Sunday to find out who was being voted out.
Also I do agree that they would be likely to extend the results show to 45 mins or even an hour on Sundays if it was to go there. Just another lazy way of filling a slot and I agree Brekkie that the results show is always dragged out too much as it is. A 20 minute show for the results would be ample IMO.

I'm assuming the break-bumper now being used is for the Boat Race on Saturday which ITV1 are showing live. However, why do they feel the need to show it in letterbox format even on widescreen? I wonder what aspect ratio they have in mind for the actual broadcast?
