Well, with this announcement I think the channel could re-remould its schedule. Clearly Tuesday is now free for solid programming.

I think we need pad to produce one of his beautifully coloured schedule grids to summarise the suggestions in the above posts Wink

As you asked so nicely:

Changes:
- Corrie gains a Tuesday and Thursday (8.30) episode and loses its Wednesday episode as well as the second Friday episode.
- Tonight brought back to once a week
- News at Ten five nights
- The Bill at 7.30 on Tuesday and Thursday, up against EastEnders.
- Two-hour dramas like Marple, Midsomer premiere Fridays at 8.
- Wednesday is the 'filler day' of the week with one off documentaries, regional shows, and Millionaire.

It's a difficult one as Wednesday is a key night of the week, so it's got to be more than "filler" really.

Certainly in the 90's it was the Wednesday 8pm slot that in the weeks where football wasn't showing it was home to the likes of Morse, Frost, Sharpe and Hornblower - and I think that it's perhaps the route they'll need to take when the football moves.

The big show-piece dramas which work fine as one-offs or short series, so it doesn't matter if football is in the slot every other week or so.

I was looking at other things and found this:

Quote:
UK version

UK broadcaster ITV has secured the rights to a 13-episode series entitled Law & Order: London, to be based on the scripts for this series. The series is to be produced by Kudos in association with Wolf Films and NBC

Yeah, that was announced a while back I think.

Sounds good though. Smile

Are the regional cutbacks likely to affect programmes such as 'Focus' on Meridian? I caught this the other night, and it was a very brilliant and well made programme about the Gherkers in Nepal. Exactly the type of programme that 'Tonight' should be. It would be an awful shame if programmes like this were sacrificed in Grades cutbacks.

Sounds expensive - so it'll probably go unfortunately.

It's just a shame that ITV don't see the opportunity in their PSB programming - it doesn't have to be about just ticking boxes, and if done correctly they could keep the slots profitable.

Regional wise and two key things IMO they need to be doing.

Firstly, looking at bigger nationwide projects which are split into regions (and proper regions) - all these "Waterways" and "Eye in the Sky" programmes seem pretty popular at a local level, and if they could capitalise on that to make it a national brand they could get themselves a quiet hit.

And secondly, not completely unlinked to the first, but using regional content on their digital channels. Obviously not all is going to be appropriate, but that documentary you were talking about sounds perfect for an airing on ITV4.

I guess that the films ie. Ice Age, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory & Nanny McPhee are counting towards their childrens quota. It's an easy way to get a few hours in.

In other news, ITV have had some level of success at 5pm with Golden Balls, which has been recommissioned for a third series, returning in April.
