I don't know what's going on with this season of programmes. Alright Rock Rivals wasn't the best, I enjoyed it, and I'm glad that I watched it rather than Traffic Cops.
If I had watched the rest of the series (which are recorded, but not seen), then I would have most probably watched Torchwood, but that's a different story.

I'd like to know what's really going on, as even the big guns aren't pulling in the ratings that they were only a year ago.
Could it all be based on the issue of trust after last year?

I don't think ITV should be going back to what they did do. They definately need other things than simple crime dramas, or housewivey shows, but then again look at honest which should fit into the latter category and hasn't worked.

I'm just hoping that the fixer can perform better next Monday.

Do ratings in programmes such as Dancing on Ice, Britains Got Talent, and even TV Burp indicate that people want more light entertainment, but then again that isn't proven by the ratings for duel.

Which brings me onto the point of that trailer for this week's duel. And as I think was said earlier in the thread they've ruined the majority of this weeks programme.

As for ITV1, I agree with pad that ITV1's image doesn't interest me at all, and the majority of the announcers I can't get to grips, most bore me.

As for ITV2 going 24 hours, hopefully they'll do something with the morning hours, maybe even a different type of Breakfast Show that has really been missing since RI:SE ended, as rubbish as it was compared to the Big Breakfast, it was something different.
Though I expect at first they'll do a channel 4 and bring in US comedies to fill the void.

No chance. Corrie, Emmerdale, Airline USA and American talk shows for the first week.

ITV is in truly dire straights. They need to destroy the channel and rebuild it - new schedules (again), all new branding and try and shed this image.

A lot of people just don't watch things because they're 'on ITV'.

That said ITV2-4 seem to be doing OK. I do think ITV need to look at their multi-channel strategy for ITV1 programming - some "first look" episodes of ITV1 drama in the 10pm slot on ITV2/3/4 could help boost the audience and attract a different profile - perhaps not substantially, but possibly get enough viewers to be significant and catch those viewers who don't opt to watch it in the ITV1 9pm slot.

Really though I'm at a loss now to figure out what ITV1 could do - they seem to be damned either way really. Only thing I can say is what we've said all along - more variety in the weekday schedules so it isn't all soap and drama.

As for branding - I don't think that's the issue here at all. You may not consider it to be "good", but it certainly isn't bad enough to put people off. And after all, BBC1 hardly shed it's viewers during the dancers era. It's the programming and scheduling which needs to be sorted.

I know its not the most important thing, but I hope that ITV1 do sort out their image one day. And I agree that programming is more important.

Could they try a trial period, maybe during the summer where they cut the number of eps of soaps, and air other programmes for a few weeks after the world cup and until the new season of programmes in September.

Of course this would mean that the figures would be lower as it's summer, but it's always worth seeing if they can try and capture in any extra audience with a variety of programmes.

Has Millionaire been getting good ratings when it's been on a Tuesday night?

Maybe even look at cheap reality fill ins, look at Britain's Got Talent, I don't think even ITV knew how big it was going to be. If they're serious about keeping Dancing On Ice on Sunday evenings, so it stays Sunday's for next years series, surely they need to find a few hits that they can bring onto a Saturday, or to fill the gaps that form in the schedules.

I'd also like to see new schedules starting together, rather than random programmes starting and ending alone, but I think that's just wishful thinking.

There also need to bring in some new US show.

Dexter is a start, and is fine where it is, but it need to another oen to be placed at 9pm.

ITV used to have us show in prime time ( there was a legal limited but still)

fine a good one for 9pm slot on a Wednesday,

Interesting idea about trialing cutting the number of soaps in the summer, but it'll never happened. Even during Euro 2008 when the soaps are displaced for live matches you can guarantee they'll be rescheduled to keep up with their quota.

Talking of Euro 2008, wouldn't be a bad idea to resurrect Fantasy Football again for the post-News at Ten slot - and to give a different angle on a tournament featuring no home nations.

By going "24 hours" does this mean an end to the three-hour teleshopping and 1-2 hour "night screen" over night?

But for how long? Good for now, but if they stop again, then there'll be more repeats, back to square one.

It bombed during Euro 2004 with home Nations competing. I can't see it working without.
