And it's getting to the stage now where it's not just the quality of individual commissions you have to question, but whether ITV's 9pm drama strategy is really the right strategy at all.

*Sigh*

No - for the viewer it is about the quality of the individual commission.

Do you honestly think Joe Public is aware of a "strategy"?

I would have watched a testcard over Rock Rivals.

That *should* sound more extreme than it does. Cheers for that, Simon.

I had my Whose Line DVD delivered last night. I should have watched that instead.

I didn't think Rock Rivals was that bad, I will be watching again next week, it deserved better ratings than 3.9m, I would have thought 5.5m or 6m would have tuned in.

Ooh have they finally released that then, I preordered that back in October (for a November release) & they kept moving the bloody date back.

As to the fine, serves them right, they've only got themselves to blame.

Having now watched Rock Rivals I'd say it's probably the worst ITV drama of the year so far - shockingly bad all round, from the stories based around the contestants to the cliched judges themselves - though Michelle Collins and Sean Gallagher did the best with what they had to work with. Just truly awful really.

I was very disappointed in Rock Rivals - unlike Footballers Wives which was trashy and over the top which made it great viewing for me, I was bored with the storylines and characters in Rock Rivals.

Also 3.9 isnt a brilliant figure to start off with so who knows how much it could drop to next week.

It faces The Apprentice next week. It's gonna bomb.

ITV is in truly dire straights. They need to destroy the channel and rebuild it - new schedules (again), all new branding and try and shed this image.

A lot of people just don't watch things because they're 'on ITV'. Not excusing the quality of some shows, but the perceptions of ITV have to change. They have to markedly revamp the presentation and possibly change the continuity announcers, as they are synonymous with the old regime even as voices.

Oh goody. More spreadsheets. (I kid)

I cannot agree about matters of presentation as watch STV and have no complaints on that score.

Its the garbage series I object to.

If they aren't watching, how would they notice new idents?

They need to go back to basics and start doing all the things that people assume they are doing anyway, more cosy dramas, police dramas, more reality tv, more documentaries like the 'From Hell' strand, stop trying to develop new ideas because it is obvious people are not willing to even give them a go. It seems people know what they like and just don't want to watch anything new, they much prefer to watch a cheap filler like Traffic Cops
