I really like the presentation used in 'America decides 2012' tonight. The graphics are nice and clean with nice use of the digital studio. I hope they go for something like this in the redesign. It does look a little like sky news but its very nice.
I promised myself that whatever I'd watch of it, I'd stick to the BBC. But compared to the likes of ITV and Sky, their graphics are so boring to look at. ITV's coverage looked a bit more spiced up and livelier.

I agree, the BBC version just looked like BBC News, sky version looked like sky news. But itv looked like a whole new program and set. I've always loved itv.
ITV are frustrating because they can produce great coverage with nice graphics and a very nice set (it looked remarkably different even though it was just the same one coloured blue). They just choose not to.

This will hopefully change when the News colours change in January.

Hoping for blue, personally!
Just hope they don't draft in BDA again to mess the whole damn thing up.
But my biggest concern is for news and current affairs programming.
You can't judge the news package based solely on the logo.
Sorry, but not sure I agree.
Imagine having a decent set of opening titles for a serious news programme, but then having to incorporate a logo like Cbeebies into it? I'm not saying the new logo is anything like that, but you get my drift? I think most people would agree that wouldn't work. The logo is pretty integral when it comes to branding of television news imo.
Imagine the BBC logo on jaggered illuminous astons, or with a pop song theme tune. The logo is small element of the overall package.
It would be fair to wait to see how they use the logo in the news package before commenting I think.
I've every confidence ITN’s graphics department will do everything it can to incorporate the new logo into new opening titles, but I think you’re wrong about the logo being just a small element within the overall package. Yes, it’s just one part of the branding, but it is an important one which can help shape perception of a programme. Take the new opening titles for Newsnight as an example – great graphics and music but you can’t seriously be suggesting they’d still work as well if the programme title had been rendered in the Cbeebies font? The typography used in branding needs to reflect the programme genre and content, and while the new logo isn’t anything like Cbeebies (I need to stop saying that), I still don’t think it works well for news or current affairs. But you’re right – the proof will be in the pudding I guess …
Erm ... here's where I eat humble pie:
Yes, I don't like the new logo, and yes, I don't think it really works for news, but having seen the new titles, I have to say I think they're pretty damn good. We seem to be back to blue again, and the use of the logo is quite understated. They have brought in a well known team of branding experts though (and not BDA for once, although I think they're involved with the studio set design).

New titles, new logo? Sorry, have I missed something?

Heh. Weren't BDA the group who got paid millions to put the Nine Network's logo in a box back in 2006? That went down well... not...
