I don't think using any of Granada's regional presentation will help. The arrow would have to represent the northern hemisphere or something. Also, it'd anger Anglia, Central, Tyne Tees etc fanboys/girls.

I really think they need something neutral. It doesn't need to be "in your face". If they want that, they should incorporate it into the idents themselves, not the logo. They need something that will stand the test of time. Idents change every few years, that's a given, but the logo should ideally remain constant and consistent.

Granada may have made good programmes but looking back their continuity was rubbish!

If ITV are rebranding they really need an actual logo, not just text in a box yet again.

The thing is, 'text in a box' doesn't automatically mean they lack a brand. It's doing an execution of that design that sticks in peoples mind that they need.
The France Televisions rebrand was 'text in a number', however due to a consistent theme between the channels it was remembered.

The problem with ITV's branding currently is a total disregard for consistency, even more so than BBC.
Of all the channels, two are using brands which are close to their original logos, however those two are also hardly ever promoted. I was surprised the other day when I saw an ITV4 promo and it was still using the trailer style from launch.

ITV 1 has a glossy logo, 2 has a 3D logo and there is no consistent theme linking any channels design.
In the 90s France Televisions brand, though France 2 and France 3 had different trailer endcard and break-bumper styles, they used a consistent font and style.

This is what ITV are lacking, a common theme in design.

Just my idea anyway.

I don't see how you can say its branding is worse than BBCs for consistency... I know each BBC channel has the BBC blocks, but apart from that there is nothing to tie them altogether. BBC One generally has the logo in written form, but sometimes decides to use the red box logo??
BBC Two has the Teal box logo on its idents, but then on promos etc it usually uses a white box with coloured text, and half the time they can't even get their own logo right.
BBC Three has a text logo under the BBC boxes and they have changed their channel look several times since the new look launched. BBC Four has the black box logo and has probably changed the least since the launch, but what exactly ties these channels together? If you took away the bbc boxes there is no consistency at all.

To be honest though I don't think channels belonging to the same network need to have so much consistency, as long as people know they are from that network. Look at Channel 4 and its sister channels, they are each completely different, but everyone knows E4, More 4 etc are all part of Channel 4.

I've just noticed...Celebrity Juice doesn't use the ITV font for end credits, a new thing?

Possibly something from the past and the majority would agree on such as the old ATV eye or the ITC helix which are both owned by ITV plc! There again anything can be better that the thing they have at the moment on ITV Studios ident!

Nope, it never has, I think I mentioned it a few series back. It is odd, especially as talkback/Fremantle create many shows that correctly use the font, even other Keith Lemon programmes from talkback/Fremantle have used it.

in response to brekkie there isa very basic cohesive brand logo attached to itv the coloured big rectangle and the small rectangle wit the number in the square sized gap in between it could be a lot stronger but it basically a band it could be forgettable and citv does nt follow it anyway

I can't see how Brekkie won't understand now...

How many companies that have never had a 'logo' manage to successfully invent one 50-odd years into it's existance? Even if they do invent one, how many have one that is so successful that it is used on it's own and not just slapped at the right hand side of the company name.

The primary channels from France Télévisions, and their counterpart in the Netherlands, have a great advantage in that they own their respective numerals. People in France know exactly what channels to associate number 2, 3 and 5 with, and the same goes in the Netherlands for 1, 2 and 3. This meant they could create a simple and memorable logo system, and overcome the fact that they both lack a strong corporate brands.

You can't replicate these successes with ITV, as they only have their corporate brand. The numerals themselves aren't exclusively associated with any particular channel (at least two of them are strongly associated with other channels).

They're doing the right thing getting rid of the 1 from ITV1's name. It's always referred to as, and their channel number on all platforms ends in, 3.
