...ITV marketing staff won't like it, as in my experience they think the network is more sophisticated and middle class than it actually is.
Speaking of which, I was fiddling around with this idea, an ITV rebrand based on/inspired by the France Télévision '92 rebrand seen in the International Presentation thread.
But it might be a bit 90's with the Garamond...

Talking about France televisions and that takes me back to praising the old four square motif ITV introduced a decade ago. France Television have adopted something similar now to link together all their channels and it's quickly become a recogniseable emblem of the channel which people will recognise without being explicitely told what the logo represents (as indeed the old ITV regional logos did). If ITV are rebranding they really need an actual logo, not just text in a box yet again.

I don't think you've been concentrating hard enough over the last 23 years.. it's definitely a brand!
ITV isn't a brand. Never has been, never will be.

Either way it's a CRAP brand, has not never been able to get a single unformed brand since its mergers 10 years ago, It tried in 1989, but failed, Thus 15 new smaller brands tried to compete. until 2002 when someone tried to get ITV, as one single talking brand. Problem was there never spent any an creating a proper brand or Logo for the company, instead doing cheap and pretty poor design. Nice yellow ident ( 3 times its been changeover the years) that mean nothing and explains about the channel. Why hasn't ITV created an logo for its self? STV done, UTV done it,

STV's logo forms part of the saltire. That is what their image is based on.
What exactly do the STV and UTV logos 'say about the channels'? Why are they so much better than the ITV1 logo?

Which if you think of it, is a call back to Grampian's branding. They took the left triangle from the saltire, combined it with the S from the previous STV logo, and viola, one unique brand. The STV acronym itself, of course, also harks back to an old brand, as Scottish originally used the shortened name in the 70s.
Maybe ITV would be wise to consider embracing Granada's heritage.
As for UTV's, their logo is designed to better fit Internet pages (they own an ISP) and by coincidence, was fully compatible with the 1998 ITV logo, in that it could easily replace it in graphics packages - don't forget, the second ident package with the current logo was an edit of ITV1's, and a number of network promo and menu styles have been adapted since. The current UTV logo still looks fresh, unlike the 1998 ITV logo, which has dated fast.

I don't think using any of Granada's regional presentation will help. The arrow would have to represent the northern hemisphere or something. Also, it'd anger Anglia, Central, Tyne Tees etc fanboys/girls.
I really think they need something neutral. It doesn't need to be "in your face". If they want that, they should incorporate it into the idents themselves, not the logo. They need something that will stand the test of time. Idents change every few years, that's a given, but the logo should ideally remain constant and consistent.
