ITV has applied for planning permission to add 'feature lighting' to its tower on the South Bank in the New Year

The plans give a clue to the new ITV colour scheme:

Very interesting. Thanks for posting this. That's going to look awesome.

ITV, ITV2, 3 and 4 colours?

Thoughts are practically the colours now. Yellow for ITV1, Green for ITV2, Red for ITV3 & Teal/ Blue for ITV4.

Though if I were to assign colours I'd say; Teal for ITV1, Pink for ITV2, Yellow for ITV3, Green for ITV4.
Maybe the yellow represents CITV? Their current logo is that colour.

Immediately a problem as I click on Downton Abbey, full screen it, and find the picture zoomed in, so, not working. Brilliant.

Note where it says "BETA" beside the logo

Thanks for that. I've never used a Beta site before so I had absolutely no idea.

My point is that every single time I have used ITV Player, it has been disappointing. The controls are clunky and don't work, navigation is annoying and doesn't work, the streams constantly buffer and don't work, the adverts play and then the programme doesn't work, and even now, I press full screen and that doesn't work.

My computer doesn't like ITV Player either, although I do have the iPhone app and have no problems with that so its strange that they can't manage to fix it for the computer. But watching it on a 4 inch screen is far from ideal.

Which leaves one of the channels without a colour.

The planning application states that they are LED lights, and as such are capable of producing any colour.

I would have thought that the picture was just an illustration of how they will look on the building, rather than an indication of which colours would be used.

Not all the channels and services are represented in four colours anyway unless there are duplicates. At present, ITV1, CITV and ITV News are all yellow, ITV Sport is black, ITV.com and ITV Studios are white, ITV2 is green, ITV3 is red, ITV4 is teal, the corporate logo is blue. That's seven different colours.

Good point. And even if these colours do hold some significance, everyone's getting a bit ahead of themselves assuming that each of the four colours would correspond to the different channels. There's no certainty that that will remain the case.

It might be the colour pallette of 'ITV' - not the other channels.

I know not everybody has Sky, but the ITV Player on their catch up service is very good and I've used ITV Player more there than online. If ITV Player worked as well as BBC iPlayer it'd be more popular. Not the worst user experience but it could be so much better, especially if downloading of shows were possible.

Given how childish we've been told the new identity is, it could well be exactly that.

Could be the main channel:

In addition to the decision to change ITV1’s name, its traditional yellow colour scheme will be phased out and a new series of idents will be introduced, possibly with a more flexible colour palette .
